MTV developing Scream series

I like it because it's different enough to be its own thing. It's like the events of Scream but happening in a different city and time.

I agree. The fact that it isn't a carbon copy of the original Scream is a saving grace for me. It made me like the show more.

I'm willing to give the first season a chance. So far the only character I like is the killer. The new mask is creepy , I think it works. Maybe the cast will grow on me. Well.... The ones that survive.

Yes Bella Thorne should have lasted at least a couple of episodes & had a few more bikini shots before meeting her demise.:( At least there is Emma & Brooke if any of those 2 are killed off soon then I would stop watching since they are the only 2 hot girls still left alive that I care about.

The short black haired girl seems to have been in everything recently from Arrow, IZombie & now the Scream series but I just don't care about her one way or the other, I hope they don't play her as the Sidney of the tv series.

The Emma character is the Sidney of this series from a what gather. If anything her friend seems unforgiving and could be associated with the killer but that could also be a red herring. Noah is basically the Randy , the Jocks are Stu, and the loner guy is sort of Billy.

It wasn't a strong pilot but the preview makes it seem promising

I am curious if the live rating will dip under 1m next week.

In which, what chance is there for a second season?

Good question. I have no idea how MTV decides what's decent because it's channel that skews so young. 15 year olds don't do Nielsen (who does?!).

This is the first time I've watched MTV since Jackass and Viva La Bam. lol

If this fails they still have a horror anthology series coming in September. This will be the most I've watched mtv since they brought back Beavis and Butthead ( which was very short lived)

They seem to be promoting this show a lot. I was watching something on YouTube and the ad was the entire pilot.

This is so bad, they barely even ape Scream... they basically make a mishmash of FT13th/the terrible Halloween rip-offs/new crap horror tropes.

This is sad...

It might as well be called, Stab: The New Class Rises.

I watched the pilot twice now ( MTV has been showing it mutiple times a day) and I thought it was okay. It just feels like slightly watered down version of the first movie. I am still willing to give the show a chance, but I can see this falling off fast. I wish Wes Craven was more hands on with the show instead of just being a executive producer.

I think it's good that it doesn't completely ape the Scream movie. If that were to be the case, then what would really be the point?

It's important to remember what the original Scream movie really was at its core: a horror/comedy that was meant to be a self-aware satire of horror movies in general. The movie itself was unabashedly a mashup of elements from Halloween/F13 -- killer in a white mask hunts a high school girl (virgin) and kills her friends one by one -- that purposely included and parodied all of the most common slasher movie cliches and added a "whodunnit" mystery. It also took the whole "killer calls his victims and taunts them while already in the house" concept from the awesome 1979 When A Stranger Calls.

This is a Scream series in the sense that it retains the same core concept as the movies -- a self-aware comedy/horror story about a masked killer hunting a high school girl and her friends, with a variety of potential suspects. If you're saying that it's a mish-mash of F13/Halloween movies and crappy horror tropes and cliches...then the TV show is doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing and also exactly the same thing the Scream movies did. Cheesy/trendy dialogue and stereotypical high school characters who are mostly idiots making terrible decisions are part of what made the first Scream movie so great.

They've even kept the concept of the previous murderous event that launches a present day set of murders, although they've switched it up a little. In the movies, the basis for the killer(s) hunting Sidney stemmed from the murder of her mother the previous year. Now, it stems from the previous murder spree of a deformed killer.

What's that called I'm always up for Horror Anthology series.

Oh I thought u meant MTV has a horror Anthlogy Series in September

My mistake . They kept showing the preview for it . I guess that was 'on demand' and not MTVs decision. I'm used to only seeing mtv show previews like they did with teen wolf a few times

Episode 2 was an improvement, IMO.

Yeah, I'm getting caught up in the mystery. Also enjoyed the call at the end.

So is this worth watching? I generally avoid MTV like the plague, but I've been a fan of Bex ever since The Killing, so I'm debating giving it a shot.

MTV's scripted series are actually pretty good. That's always been where they've shined since they get decent writers on them somehow.

Indeed. Teen Wolf, Finding Carter, Eye Candy(RIP) and now Scream have been some of the shows I enjoy watching.

They just need to figure out a way to cut down the commercials. I can never watch them live because the commercial breaks are not only so long, but repetitive. Sometimes feels like there is more commercial content than episode content. DVR for the win.
