MutantCircus Art Thread

MutantCircus I really like your drawings! I wish I could draw, but as of right now I cannot, but I'm taking a class! (my favorite pic you drew is the one of spidey swinging in the city, you know, the one where it was different and then you said you were going to change the pose) I especially like how you dont get biotchy or anything when people say things about your work. You just take note and keep drawing! Thats so cool!

Thanks! I appreciate your kind words. Hopefully I can see some of your work sometime. Be sure to post it when you feel you're ready to show it to people.:)

I'm sorry but youre 19 years old and you draw like a 12 year old , i mean the figures are not right and not anatomical right , practice some more before you post here more pics .

Thanks for your opinion, but I'm not going to get better if I don't get feedback, so I'm going to keep posting my work even though it's not great yet.

okay, i think everyone is thinking i'm actually attempting great works of art with these things. let me illustrate the normal process involved when i draw these.

1. i sit at my desk bored and grab my pencil, think of a cool spidey pose and go at it.

2. my phone rings. i drop my pencil, pick up a pen and write down anything i need to write down. if i have time, i add to the picture while on the phone.

3. i fill out paperwork. when finished, i pick up my pencil again and pick up from where i left off.

4. go back to step 2.

this goes on all day, so when i'm drawing i'm never giving it my all. anyway, i decided to do a drawing today with an existing pose and with copies of my favorite representations of spidey as reference, to show everyone what it's like when i actually concentrate on my work. here is the result:

by the way, for anyone wondering, it took me exactly 10 minutes to draw that, while all other pics in this thread were drawn over a period of at least an hour each.

That looks like a McFarlane pose...no?
Erik Larson, actually, but I like to take alot of influence from McFarlane, (He and Bagley are my favorites) so that's probably why it looks like his style.

It only took you 10 minutes?! Holy cow!! ^.^ I really like that one!

What do you use to start your drawing? Do you start with graphite from the get go?

The only reason I ask is because I tend to use a blue pencil first to rough out the drawing and then go with graphite when I know what I want out of the sketch. Helps to keep the loose quality of the sketch sometimes. Have you done lots of little scribbly drawings of Spider-Man in action poses? They help too.

Egad, I should really get back to drawing something more realistic than these cartoons.

Keep it up. :)

actually, yeah. just lead, a peice of paper, and a bunch of spidey pics to stare at so i know what i'm doing. i think i've been doing with my regular lead pencil what you've been doing with your blue one, i add ink later to keep the lines i like, and erase all the pencil lines. and yeah, i sort of cinsider the rest of pics in my thread my "practice" pics of spidey in action.

so this blue pencil method helps? i oughta try it. i've never been to an art store (never took my drawings too seriously) but i may try it if it will add quality. thank you! it's good to hear kind words from my favorite artist on these boards. :)

New pic. This one was back to my own routine, drawn at work, but I've been doing some practice in my own time, so I think it's helping me improve. Yes, this is drawn from scratch. I did not have any comics as reference when I drew this.

If you haven't noticed, the muscle on the opposite side of the bicep mostly bulges toward the top (unless you have really small muscles), so It is indeed anatomically correct.

This is not a photo. This is a comic-stlyed drawing in the style of the 80's Spider-Man comics. This is how he looks when his arm is completely straight in those drawings, this is how he's supposed to look in my drawing. Your opinion is noted.

Hey buddy, i just wanted to say as I looked through this thread, you've made alot of progress with perspective and detail. Keep it up ok? When I start a drawing, cause I make alot of mistakes or something may look wrong, I use a blue leaded pencil, then go over it with pencil or ink. Maybe that'll give you more room to experiment. :) good stuff.

yeah, silver s had mentioned that. i'm gonna look into trying that. right now i don't have a blue pencil so i'm doing it with just plain lead, but i'll try that out eventually.

and thanks for the kind words. :) i appreciate it.

didn't make anything interesting today. drew spidey in a normal standing position from both fron and back view to show off my version of the suit. i've made my own version of the front spider, the crab spider (a.k.a. comics back spider) and spidey's eyes.
