My THOUGHTS on my BOUGHTS... October 19, 2011

Flashpoint had a few tie ins? You're joking right?

Yeah, it really didn't go overboard with the tie-ins. The only ongoing Flashpoint tied into was Booster Gold for four issues, and then there were four one shots and 16 three issue minis. Which brings the total to 56 tie in issues. Compare this to Secret Invasion (87 issues, not including epilogue, prologue, reprints, and handbooks) and Civil War (78 issues officially tied in through the Civil War or Casualties of War banner). It's on the lower end of a typical crossover spectrum (like Siege and House of M).

Now let's compare this to Fear Itself, not including the Prologue issue and the Epilogue issues or reprints like Sin's Past, handbooks like Fellowship of Evil, or Spotlights, and not even the Aftermath as well. We're talking about actual Fear Itself tie-ins. Fear Itself crossed over into 17 ongoings of books in varying lengths, plus 3 one shots, plus 9 minis of varying lengths. The total of Fear Itself tie-ins is: 118, more than double the amount Flashpoint did.

Fair enough but DC stopped every ongoing they had which is just ridiculous. I mean good for my bank account since I didn't buy any DC comics during Flashpoint. But in the end why does it matter how many tie ins an event has? You don't have to buy all of them. I got the main FI book, JIM, and Avengers. I didn't feel like I missed anything.

Except a lot of them are continuing in new books. And the stuff that isn't continuing needed a much needed reboot like Superman and Wonder Woman.

It's kinda annoying when tie-in issues interrupt regular comics that I'm buying. That's why I liked Flashpoint having the minis completely separate from the ongoings. It didn't interrupt anything that I was already reading.

Agree to disagree I guess.

You read JiM? I like the cut of your jib.

Journey into Mystery is one of the few bright spots in Fear Itself.

It's the only book having to do with Fear that I really enjoyed in any way. The mephisto issue alone was probably better than all of fear.

Gillen has it totally nailed down when it comes to the Asgardians. I'm looking forward to what he does with JiM now that Fear is over. Uncanny X-Men is going to be a bigger hill to climb for him, that franchise has developed quite a few welts over time. He's had a few bright spots so far with his Magneto and Hope single issues.

Oddly enough I think the only X-Men I'm going to bother with, and I really can't believe I'm saying this, is Wolverine and the X-Men.

Gillen's a great writer and that cast is far more interesting to me, but the premise just sucks donkey balls. Old donkey balls.

It suffered a bit due to Fear Itself as well, though. Portacio... blerg. Also, I found the ending of the plot a bit anticlimactic, although Loki and Volstagg's reactions to it were more Gillen gold.

I haven't had the chance to get the most recent issue. Tell me nothing.

Ooh, close call. I almost spoiled the part about Loki turning into a giant octopus and mating with Fin Fang Foom. That would've been really embarrassing! :ninja:

Considering his past of doing stuff exactly like that, it's plausable.

Instead we got Herc turning into a half man half spider and making it with a Greek Goddess who was half spider over in Spider-Island...
