Namor new ongoing in 2007

I agree with the idea of Brubaker writing. That would be excellent. Though, I do like the way Bendis writes Namor.

With what I wrote above, I might consider throwing Oeming's hat into the ring, or (if this is a publisher-independent wish list) considering what he does on Conan, Busiek would be a great choice.

really? i'm waiting for the trade, my new job dosn't pay aswel as my old one so i had to cut down a bit on the books.

the Doc's probably one of my fav marvel heroes.
Buy the trade then. I am really not a Dr. Strange fan but I am a fan of BKV and his mini so far is excellent. He gets him right and yet doesn't make him infallible or uses magic as a dues ex machina. Vaughan embraces everything and sort of shows what a parody other writers make of Strange's character. Definately give OATH a read when the trade hits. Even if Vaughan's last few issues stink, it'll still have been the best Strange story in years.

What I always felt you needed was someone who could create a "world" for Namor to live in. Atlantis should be presented along the lines of Asgard, with all kinds of underwater places to discover. A year or so ago, when we were speculating what Neil Gaiman's project might be, I suggested that I'd like to see him take a stab at either this or Dr. Strange.

Agreed on all points. Firstly, Atlantis has got to stop looking like Midtown underwater and a writer/artist team have to imagine a culture of people who are powerful swimmers who live underwater and whatnot. It has to capture that mix of ancient and yet modern, and wouldn't be designed the same as us land-lubbers who can't swim up a few fathoms.

Secondly, Gaiman, Oeming, and Busiek are all top notch choices. Gaiman's managed to make the ETERNALS interesting (and a moderate seller) and Oeming's gotten to fame crafting good stories about Marvel's oft forgotten mythical characters. Busiek has that old-school history down, although he might write it too "old school" if his JLA/AVENGERS is any indication (it is aging well, but at the time felt like an 80's story in the 2000's). But I'd prefer the three of them over Brubaker frankly. Even if out of the three Oeming may be the most likely to take the gig, as he's only set for OMEGA FLIGHT so far.

Gaiman, Vaughan, or Busiek would be great.

What's Busiek up to these days, since he quit Conan?

Aquaman and Superman. Both are kicking ass.

I love Namor. Really I do. But this books not gonna go anywhere unless they get a high profile team on it. And that's the honest to God truth.

How could you say that about one of Marvel's first heroes to ever appear in a comic? Let alone the very first mutant to every be published.
Because he has had his own title only sporadically? He spends most of his time as a supporting character on Fantastic Four and The Avengers. Besides, being first, or near first, confers nothing. Of Marvel's Golden Agers, only Cap has proven really enduring (and even then, he's never been a huge character, sales-wise).

Oeming would be an interesting choice to write.

For supporting cast, the Invisible Woman might be available post-CW.:cwink:

Speaking of the Invisible Woman, I definitely don't want to see Greg Land on art.

What's the deal with that? Namor's not actually Homo Superior, like the X-Men, right? Just a "mutation" in regards to being a product of two different species.
He's Marvel's first and mightiest mutant. The wings on his ankles are actually a result of him being homo-superior.

Me too! The Illuminati (one shot and in the mini) has Namor being a 100% badass. That's the way he needs to be written in this series.

Good call.

Bru's version of Namor in the Winter Soldier Special was excellent!

Now that my lazy ass has picked up my stash of books and read the Winter Soldier special I must agree.

Also, was it Bendis that wrote the initial Illuminati one shot?? Namor was done damn good in that.

"Sporadically". That's a slight mis-conception, that i see a lot of people fall into in regards to the character's "star-power".

Consider that after his Silver Age relaunch, Namor was soon after rewarded with a co-starring spot in Tales To Astonish, alongside The Hulk. Namor proved popular enough there to be included in Marvel's 1960's Marvel Cartoons show... His run in Tales lasted 31 issues (just shy of three years). He was then promoted to his own headlining title, which lasted another six years.

That's basically a nine year run.

There was a short run a few years later that was basically reprints, and then a few minis, but his next full length series managed another respectable five years.

If characters like Moon Knight, Iron Fist, Nova, etc., can be revitalized, none of whom have ever really had more success than Namor has, then i think the book can have a very decent run (if not a long lasting one), provided, as many have already stated, that the right creators get involved.

And don't forget, Iron Fist wouldn't even be around if Byrne didn't bring him back in Namor's last ongoing series.
