Namor the Sub-Mariner

So is Namor back at Marvel or is he still with Universal? I wonder why we can't get straight answer to questions like this.

I don't think you're gonna get a straight answer about it. Feige just said the rights were "complicated". I'm assuming that means they aren't 100% at Marvel for sure.

I'm just not interested in the concept anymore than I am Aquaman, but don't get me wrong. If they make it, they've already got my money. :D

I want all Marvel solo characters to get solo movies. There are some that admittedly are less interesting to me than others, but ultimately, I want to see them all on the big screen.

It'd be really cool if they pulled a fast one and put Namor in the Defenders series as the antagonist at first, with the army of Atlantis at his back, only to end up joining them against the real threat.

Not going to happen. The Defenders TV series is all about the street level heroes Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. They are not going to fight Namor. He wouldn't even fit in with the tone and street vibe of what they're going for.

I wonder will Kingpin be a major antagonist for them.

They have no chance of beating him and an army...Namor beat the Hulk

As I've noticed before, Namor has been absent in games, toys and such. One could say it's due to his rights being ''complicated''. Recently, Lego Ideas put up a poll, to evaluate people's opinion on a potential X-Men Lego set.

And to my surprise, I saw Namor being included.

Could this mean Marvel got the rights back somehow?

That's a list by fans not lego themselves and even if it was it has to do with merchandising not movie rights. Universal may have movie rights but not merch

Has anyone heard confirmation if Namor is really gonna be a movie?

a public campaign should be launched to shame Universal into giving back the rights to Disney.

The rights are with Marvel, and not Universal, according to Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter.

I doubt Universal will want to produce an expensive Namor film anyways if they still have the rights. If anything they will hold on to the distribution rights like they have with Hulk. Starting a solo franchise with Namor without the benefit of the MCU is a losing situation for Universal at this point in the game.

Superhero movies are at their highest in popularity levels. Namor can be a successful solo franchise if time and effort was put into it, no movies require a universe of other characters, that simply offers additional opportunities

With all the attention being brought up for Ant-
Man, Doctor Strange, Daredevil and Etc., I feel sorry for Namor, if only he could go back to Marvel asap, 100% sure they'll have something for him in the plate.

I think Marvel is just waiting to get back the rights for FF then from there, they'll announce that they also got back the rights to Namor.

I think the obstacle is if they do a Namor movie and do it right, it would be prohibitively expensive (all those underwater city scenes). Also, I fear for the fate of those tiny ankle wings. I somehow doubt the studio goes with them.

So never, then. :funny:

Agreed, I think that's the biggest obstacle, I don't think there's ever been a live-action movie set underwater without bubble-cities and such

Could be an AWESOME flick if done correctly - Namor's never been my favorite (because he's always written as such a *****e) but I think the character has potential and the "underwater city" setting hasn't really been done since the Star Wars prequels. I can even see the foot wings being used if they show up as more of a flying fin than a feathered wing.

I'm inclined to say, wait until after Avatar 2. James Cameron will hopefully have invented the necessary technology to do the underwater "filming" by that point.
