Namor the Sub-Mariner

So if like Hulk, Namor can't have his own films, and can only appear as a "guest" in other's films. via Dr. Strange, Black Panther possibly F4, etc.

Can they launch a Defenders film franchise, starring the original Trio; Hulk, Namor, Strange, (essentially Marvel's second Trinity after Cap, Iron-Man. Thor) giving both Hulk and Namor a place to be fully developed more blatantly as the lead characters, without actually billing them as such, just under the Defenders brand.?

Add Tessa Thompson Valkyrie and you have a pretty great next faze lead team.

I absolutely LOVE this idea. And I don't see why it can't happen. Like you said, even if Disney doesn't have solo distribution rights to Hulk and Namor, I can't see there being any legal reason to stop Defenders from happening, provided the movie isn't billed as a solo project for either character.

I'd love to see Marvel go crazy with this. Include Silver Surfer, Valkyrie, Nighthawk, Hellcat, the works! This could also be a good place to introduce Luke Cage and Iron Fist into the MCU as well. I would prefer to leave out Gargoyle and Son of Satan (the true version) for a Midnight Sons project...

Exciting times to be a Marvel fan :yay:

Apparently they will legit reference - Tlālōcān for Atlantis

Tlālōcān [t͡ɬaːˈloːkaːn̥] ('place of Tlāloc') is described in several Aztec codices as a paradise, ruled over by the rain deity Tlāloc -. It absorbed those who died through drowning (or had otherwise been killed by manifestations of water such as by flood or in storms by strikes of lightning) -
Tlālōcān has also been recognized in certain wall paintings of the much earlier Teotihuacan culture. Among modern Nahua-speaking peoples of the Gulf Coast,
(further read the wiki description, it even contains analogues rational to place Marvels supposed first "mutant" there.)

As well as contemporary use modern religious practices- incorporate the concept of Tlālōcān as a netherworld and shamanic destination - achieved during dreams - via underground waterways, commonly a whirlpool...

So there it is, legit in the mythology.
Which if they are working into Marvel mythology and character(s) is sensational!

Tlālōcān as a netherworld and shamanic destination - achieved during dreams - via underground waterways, commonly a whirlpool...

Further on that ^ premise

Cenotes/Xenotes
Cenotes are surface connections to subterranean water bodies. While the best-known cenotes are large open-water pools measuring tens of meters in diameter, such as those at Chichen Itza in Mexico, the greatest number of cenotes - are at least 6,000 cenotes in the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico
-the cenotes along the Caribbean coast of the Yucatán Peninsula - often provide access to extensive underwater cave systems, - a higher-density circular alignment of cenotes overlies the measured rim of the Chicxulub crater.

The Yucatán Peninsula contains a vast coastal aquifer system, - The infiltrating meteoric water (i.e., rainwater) floats on top of higher-density saline water intruding from the coastal margins. - Where a cenote, or the flooded cave to which it is an opening, provides deep enough access into the aquifer, the interface between the fresh and saline water may be reached. - Mixing of the fresh and saline water results in a blurry swirling effect caused by refraction between the different densities of fresh and saline waters.

Tlālōcān as a netherworld and shamanic destination - achieved during dreams - via underground waterways, commonly a whirlpool...

I imagine they will conceptually explain and "reveal" this until now hidden mythological world, and civilization much the same way they did entering Wakanda, and more so entering Ta Lo in Shang-Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings,
(although nobody is driving a car in there, the underwater equivalent)

I know they likley won't reference any of this directly, just indicating it's there, if you're curious. :cwink:

And who was the other dude at the panel, is he playing Attuma?

If Namor can't get his own solo MCU film for legal reasons, Defenders team movie might be the best way to get more Namor beyond BP.

I’d definitely be up for that. Love Strange and Hulk needs more opportunities to appear in stuff without his own films.

I wish Namor was actually wearing green speedo briefs in Black Panther rather than green shorts. The briefs are iconic. The shorts look too modern.

I dont think the banana hammock will fly with disney lol

Yeah, absolutely love this portrayal. He looks so damn cool with all those piercings. I'd love to see him in that little black leather vest he wears in the comics as well haha

Why did they give Namor a moustache? It's like having the Joker with a moustache under his white makeup.

The designs look really good. The lack of the speedo is no problem for me. He moved beyond that as his staple look in the comics a while ago. And who knows, it could show up eventually.

You ever notice how you can read some posts and just guess the poster right away?
