Namor the Sub-Mariner

A Sub Mariner movie has been speculated since Spider-Man came out. It’s been nothing but a tease. I think the rights were with Universal... but think about it. Is Namor really an A-type hitter? He's been canceled more then any Marvel character. I find the character intriguing if handled correctly. Remember in water he’s stronger then Thor or the Hulk.

I think he should be used as a foil or anti-hero guest staring in Marvel studio movies. If he becomes popular then launch a film.

Besides what’s already being planed I rather see.

Namor should be used as a villian in the FF movie. If enough interest is built their, then spinning him off into his own adventure shoul be considered but he shouldn't be given a movie without some exposure first

Namor could be like flying fish who fly.

Except in those fish, the fin size in proportion to the rest of their body, and the location they're at, makes sense that it allows them to glide.

On Namor, some tiny wing/fins on his ankles... there's just no way to justify that translating into flight.

I think the only realistic way Namor can achieve "flight" is for them to make him hydrokinetic. If he can mentally control water that's a feasible way to make him levitate, fly, move at super speeds under water, etc.

I would love to see an underwater epic comic book film & Namor fits the bill nicely.

Namor vs Krang storyline translated to screen and given a good script & director? Bring it on Marvel.

And then there's the Horn of Proteus. Namor pre-dates the Fantastic Four, but returned to prominence in that book's pages at a time when Marvel was bridging the gap between its 1950s monster comics and its 1960s superhero comics. The revived Namor brought with him a horn that could summon giant underwater monsters, and thus the mythology of Marvel's Atlantis includes its own kaiju.

Now, Pacific Rim was a bigger hit overseas than in the US, and giant monster movies have a slightly spotty box office history, but surely no-one could deny the appeal of a movie that pairs superheroes with giant monsters? Heck, the Avengers movie tried it, and those Chitauri space worms were nowhere near as cool as a Kirbyesque whale-beast, or a scaly seven-headed elder god.

Namor is basically a sexy Hulk who wrestles Godzillas. What's not to love?

Unfortunately there is one reason Universal should not make a Namor movie...

#6 Time is Running Out

Last year Marvel's Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada remarked that he thought the rights to Namor had already reverted to Marvel. He was wrong. It seems reasonable to infer that the rights may revert back soon, in which case Marvel might integrate Namor into its cinematic universe just as it plans to do with the Daredevil TV show on Netflix.

I would prefer a unified Marvel universe. I want Namor to be part of the same world as the Avengers, side-by-side with Thor and Iron Man and, one day, Dr Strange. If Universal won't hurry up and make a Namor movie, I hope the rights hurry up and lapse.

Marvel hasn't announced its plans for 2016. If Universal can't give us a Namor movie by then, I hope Marvel can.

Universal is not worried about Namor at the point. They are busy right now trying to write off the loss of 47 Ronin, gearing up for Jurassic World and trying to figure out how the hell to continue The Fast and the Furious franchise without Paul Walker.

Namor is the least of their worries. I don't think at this point they care if Marvel acquires Namor or not.

I didn't consider the "marvels involvement" part.

Fox did lend Kingpin to Fox for Daredevil i believe, so if thats true they can lend them which means they can do some things with the rights.

Depends on the agreement, but Universal hasn't done anything with Namor to retain the rights so they seem to have a different agreement than with Sony and Fox who have a deadline before losing the rights

Universal won't do anything with Namor now because they got other more pressing issues to worry about. I think that if the rights go back to Marvel, I don't think they would care.

That being said they've done squat with him

Well, Namor is not priority #1 right now for Universal. Their top priority is trying to figure out how to rebuild the Fast and the Furious franchise.

They have one already, but it's not superhero related. They are just trying to figure out how to proceed with that franchise without one of the main stars, who died tragically last month on break from shooting.

And they are also trying to restart a certain franchise involving Dinosaurs.

He'll proably go back to Marvel eventually. There's a ton they can do with him. He was part of the Defenders, the Invaders and the Avengers. He fought the Hulk numerous times too as well as the original Human Torch. Marvel probably own all the other undersea characters too, like Tigershark, Attuma etc - characters who could be actual foes to Namor rather than Namor being a foe to heroes.

I'm sure it will be a very timely reversion when he does eventually go back.

Five years ago, I would have said that The Rock would have been perfect as Namor. Now, that is not the case. He's too damn big now.

Zachary Quinto would be my choice for Namor. Not because of the pointy ear Spock connection, but because he already seems like an arrogant anti hero and looks enough like Namor anyway, even while on Heroes. You also need someone who can sound regal and well spoken.
