Namor the Sub-Mariner

each contract is different...there's no telling how long Namor is at Universal

Why is the terms of the contract under veils of secrecy, anyway? It's almost like we can find out more about the NSA nowadays than what's written on those contracts.

But is Namor really worth all the effort to get back to make a movie? I mean...it's a water dude...and honestly, water dudes are not all that interesting.

If we're talking worths here, how can I describe it, okay here it goes let's say Namor as worthy of a film adaptation is equal with the Black Panther, some aspects:

BP = First Major Black Hero Solo / Namor = First Water-based Hero Solo

BP = Wakanda / Namor = Atlantis

Both we're founding Members of the Illuminati (BP withdraw)

Both will have an impact on the MCU regarding the elements that they will bring to the table ala Thor's Asgard, supporting characters, etc.

The list goes on and on...

Both are Kings and both are equal, hell they have waged WAR on one another for years.

Speaking of King, there's another one of equal: Blackbolt.

Of these three kings, Black Panther is the only one who is a classic Avenger and created by Stan Lee.

Namor would be great in the MCU he doesn't work well without it imo. He's King of the majority of Planet Earth for goodness sake. The story is written right there his motivation would be to stop tbe surface dwellers before they destroy any more if his planet. And then eventually siding with Avengers after his differences are resolved. He commands a huge navy so lots of punching bags for the Avengers. He can fly swim underwater er and his power level is close to Thors. Have flashbacks of him working with Cap in WW2 like the comics. He's on the cover of Avengers #4 for goodness sakes. He's legendary

I've always felt like a Namor film was vastly more important than a solo film for some of the third stringers that Bendis elevated. Ms. Marvel, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist are all at popular highs, but I don't think any of them are as integral to the Marvel Universe as Namor.

Unfortunately, Universal has the rights, so it's a moot point.

I don't see how a Namor movie would work; he doesn't have memorable villains, and his best stories are either with F4 or other teams. Besides, I don't really think Universal knows what to do with him, anyway, since they're sitting idly by while all other studios are rushing their superhero movies out asap.

Right now Universal is taking pitches for a Submariner movie. They don't need to rush it because they have the rights for a while.

How memorable was Obadiah Stane before IM1?
Namor as a standalone property has tremendous potential, added to the MCU multiply that tenfold.
The one down side this property has are the technical aspects of underwater photography. But I have a feeling after Cameron comes up with new innovations for his next Avatar that won't be as much of a hurdle.

Universal Sets Date for Secret Legendary Tentpole
Tatiana Siegel said:
Universal Pictures has staked out Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, for a secret tentpole that is being co-financed with Legendary Pictures.

No details are being released on what is currently called "Untitled 2016 Event Project," but it is said to be a film that is new and not a sequel or remake, though it may be based on underlying intellectual property.

The film has the date to itself, though it will be followed two weeks later by J.K. Rowling's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which Warner Bros. will release on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2016.

Legendary, which signed a multiyear co-financing deal with Universal last year, already has two other films with the studio on the calendar: an untitled Michael Mann project on Jan. 16, 2015, and Warcraft on March 11, 2016.

Collider Rumor:
Could a NAMOR Movie Be Universal and Legendary’s Secret Project?
[Updated: Is GODZILLA Screenwriter Max Borenstein Working on the Script?]
Dave Trumbore said:
Update: In a recent interview with our own Christina Radish, Borenstein had the following to say:

Q: Do you have something you’ve finished writing that you know will be going into production next, or do you have a few things that you’re waiting to hear about?

BORENSTEIN
: We’ll see. There is this secret project that I’ve been working on with the folks at Legendary, which I’m excited about. I think there’s a decent shot of that [going into production]. I can’t get into details, but hopefully soon, it will hit the universe.

I'll believe it when I see evidence from a credible source. Latino Review does not count, nor do other websites operating based off their "scoop".

I don't support a Sub-Mariner divorced from the rest of the Marvel Universe. I would really question what a "Namor-verse" would even involve, long-term.

I want Disney to get aggressive to get the Sub-Mariner back. If they have to strike a deal with Universal that Legendary/Uni distributes the film in the USA or foreign territories, or gets cable/DVD rights, but the character gets back under Marvel's direct control, that would be fine by me.

Why would Universal even want to make a Namor movie where he's on his own? What the hell can you do with that? Who would even go see it? This rumour reeks of BS.

Because it would be awesome? A lot can be done. Endeavor has gone into detail about it in a few posts in this very thread. Myself, most everyone else who posts on the Hype, and a good portion of the GA depending on how good the trailer is.

Why would Universal even want to make a Namor movie

The same reason every blockbuster movie is made, Money. CBMs are at their hottest point, previously they were rising but a Namor movie wouldve been too risky as they'd have to develop a way to shoot the underwater scenes.

They'll use Namor and his supporting characters and villians. It's the exact same thing as almost all solo comic book movies and movie-making throughout history.

Blade Trilogy, Spider-Man 1-5, Iron Man, Hulk, Incredible Hulk, Daredevil, Elektra, The Wolverine, Captain America The First Avenger (sans Fury), Thor, Thor the Dark World, Iron Man 3 (sans the pointless rebranding of War Machine), Superman, Batman, Kick Ass, Dredd, Hellboy and on and on....

The only thing a Connected Universe does is have them team-up every so often and include references and so on to other characters. It's not a requirement for making movies.

Personally I think Namor would work better as a supporting-main character in either the Fantastic Four Franchise or the X-Men franchise as those are who he mostly associates with but a Solo movie has every opportunity to be great.

As for your last point, movie-goers and Fans will be the one to see it. They wont dismiss a movie just because it's not part of the universe fad, they'll see it if they like the look of it.

Namor barely associates with the X-Men. He may be a mutant, but it's not like he frequently crosses paths or is even considered an X-Man in the same way people might see the likes of Quicksilver. Namor was an Avenger (as well as an Avengers foe) and also one of the Invaders. He fits in very well into the MCU, both in the present day and even at the time of WWII and the Agent Carter/CA:TFA period.

Yes, Namor has been a member of the X-Men for the past several years under Cyclops' team of reformed supevillains. He was a member of the Phoenix 5 during the Avengers vs X-Men event. Without Fantastic Four or X-Men you basically have to make up new Namor stories, or have the Avengers play the X-Men/FF's role in his life.

i once thought the Submarriner wasn't a strong enough , popular enough
figure to do a solo film by himself. but that coud have been said the
case for blade, ghost rider, ant man, and guardians of the galaxy.

and i think a group of enemies would be more suffice, ala Orca, Great White,
pirahana, Attuma - you make it fast and colorful, dark and serious,
and a great mixture of making the film both on top of the seas, underwater
and on earth is CRITICIAL. i dont think all-sea would be a good idea.
Make the people on earth relate very well with the underwater city of the Atlantis. i don't wanna see an entire film underwater.

A very short cameo scene in a Fantastic 4 that tie into a Namor film
wouldn't be bad idea. but it should come at least 1 to 2 year apart
from the FF and a new Namor movie.

I'm pretty sure the unannounced project is not Namor. I don't trust El Maybe's "scoops".
