Namor the Sub-Mariner

I honestly think they will do Hollywood geography to achieve it if they even decide to include that. They'll figure no-one will know where Wakanda is exactly or where the Democratic Republic of Congo is (even though you could easily look on a world map).

I mean, they did the Greenwich thing in Thor 2.
That made me laugh because I pass through Greenwich everyday on my daily commute. I hate to be nit picky, but it isn't that hard to pull up the London tube map on google. lol

Namor will just be compared to Momoa's DCEU Aquaman

No he won't. Not unless they make him a bro like Momoa. But since Namor will be someone whom others will think is a villain first but only later turns out to be an anti hero, he could seem quite different.

Yeah I know that but they will compare the MCU Atlantis to the DCEU version of Atlantis which I thought was damn near awesome so I fail to see how Marvel tops that

We might not even see Atlantis if we see Namor mostly attacking the surface world. He might just talk about it, and then leave it for a future film. After all, we didn't even really see Aquaman's Atlantis properly until his own film.

Namor attacking the surface world would be the exact opposite of Aquaman so I can go for that

Especially if he doesn't get a solo film, which I highly doubt. Maybe we'd see Atlantis eventually in another appearance of his - albeit briefly.

I realised that the Thor video I posted before is actually uploaded by Transport for London. The video's description says:

"If you like Thor and want to know how you get to Greenwich, TfL can help you wih that! Marvel superhero, Thor, the Mighty Avenger has proven very adept at saving Earth from destruction and restoring order to the Cosmos -- but it seems he doesn't have a clue when it comes to hopping on the Tube!"

Well neither does that woman passenger apparently! :o

Yeah well, they used to compare batman with iron man. Now no more. I think marvel can rise to the challenge especially if they give him a mick jagger type swagger

Aquaman and Namor are gonna be compared in so much as they are under water heroes who are both royalty... But after that and maybe both often touching on environmental issues insofar as they pertain to the ocean... The characters have always been night and day and given what we've seen of Momoa as Aquaman I don't think there's any chance of the MCU Namor being remotely like him.

It's honestly a strange thing to fret about in the first place.

Agreed. Namor is radically different to Arthur just on personality and character alone.

I guess the main point is, what’s the different hook to a sub mariner movie? As in, the doctor strange sequel (horror) is going to be very different to, just as examples endgame (war movie) or Spider-Man homecoming (teen drama). So what’s the new hook for namor? And how would that be different to Aquaman?

We haven’t really done a James whale monster mash type film so maybe they could do that? Like even set in in the world war 2 era?

Well we aren't getting a Namor solo likely anytime soon. I think it's more about what you do with him as a character, how he bounces off of the other heroes and villains and how you position Atlantis with Namor at the head of it within the wider MCU Earth.

Plots or themes for a Namor solo is a bit moot at this point I think.

As far as I know Namor's rights are still similar to Hulk where Marvel can't even give him a solo film anyway. I think he'd work best as a supporting character who shows up in Black Panther, a Fantastic 4, Avengers, etc.

I think he'd be best serve as a villain in Black Panther, or Doom.

He could also appear in a team-up film like Avengers, or some new Defenders / Invaders

Kinda ironic that Namor is being featured on Marvel Future fight as apart of the new system update for August.

I don't believe in coincidences.

Interesting combo. They clearly want to do more with Wave. Let’s cross our fingers

Unless they use Hollywood geography where places are nowhere near where they're actually located in real life:

No you silly woman. He'll end up nowhere near Greenwich. He's not even on the right train line. :wall:

Or RDJ getting from beneath the Houses of Parliament to the top of Tower Bridge in Sherlock Holmes. Completely impossible.

Maybe Wakanda (which is located somewhere within the Democratic Republic of Congo) will be right next to the Indian Ocean. :o

How about Gotham City and Metropolis being across the street?

Definitely something to look at. Marvel likes to push characters they have plans for

Interesting choice of costume too. Back in the speedos. A hero for the aussiebum generation

Plus if they cast someone of Polynesian descent to play Namor then it is gonna be instantly compared to Momoa which is why I hope they cast someone of Asian descent or just cast a white actor altogether

Have you heard of that „David“ casting call, who‘s the ruler of an ancient distant kingdom?
Right now, only DS2 and Shang-Chi are in pre-production. If David is Namor, it could mean, that he‘s in Multiverse of Madness or Shang Chi

Strange 2 seems more likely given that Derrickson tweeted about Mr. McKenzie's involvement.

Besides being (probably) much smaller than Mamoa's Aquaman, the distinguishing characteristic for Namor is that he's an a-hole, even when he's doing the right thing. Hickman's depiction of him in New Avengers as the guy goading his fellow Illuminati, especially T'Challa, and constantly reminding them how far they have sunk was terrific.

With Feige and Company having successfully brought so many likable heroes to the big screen, Phase 4 and 5 should be dedicated to the SOBs. Bring on Namor and Emma Frost!
