National Cinema Day 9/3/22 ($3 movie tickets)

I'm heading out to see a matinee of Spider-Man: No Way Home: The More Fun Stuff Version for less than what I usually pay for a cup of coffee. What a time to be alive! I also saw that some of the showings are sold out which means I'm sure people took advantage and booked out the whole theater for birthday parties, etc.

My local theatre is sold out for the day. A remarkable feat considering the crap they're showing.

Yeah mine is packed for many showings as well. Maybe they need to find a way to move the $5 Tuesday to Saturday during slower seasons.

I think there's also a mentality of "For only $3 I'd be crazy not to take advantage of it". My only regret was that I didn't spend all day at the theater because I only had time to catch a matinee today. If I was able to I would have probably tried to squeeze in showings of Jaws in IMAX and Bullet Train.

Just came back from seeing JAWS on the big screen. In glorious IMAX. Only 3 dollars.

I had a blast!

Great crowd too. People of all ages and they were really into it. The whole theater popped when Brody killed the shark.

I hope National Cinema Day becomes a yearly staple.

Today was fun. :)

Just got out of Bullet Train, my second time seeing it, and the theater was packed in a way I haven’t seen it in years even pre pandemic. I felt sorry for the concession workers cause there’s no way they were prepared/staffed for that line. I just need theaters to do one thing ban babies from rated r movies. Luckily the baby only got loud once but still…

I guess we'll find out how much of a success it was in the next couple of days but it sounds like it boosted theaters a bit. They should consider doing this multiple times a year, maybe once a quarter although I'm sure it'll depend on the weekend. For example, I don't think Disney would want that happening on an MCU opening weekend. But if it's during a more or less quiet time at the box office like this weekend studios can even rerelease old favorites and classics.

I’m sure the theaters benefited from the extra admissions on Saturday and a bigger concessions take but overall the box office was pretty bad for the weekend I think. But a lot of that had to do with no new movies out.
