Would you like to see him? And who could possibly play him?

I would love to see maybe Benicio del Toro or Javier Bardem playing gangster Bane but I don't see it happenning

Bane should be a third world version of Batman imo.

I think the island prison upbringing and gangsta government concepts contrast nicely with Bruce Wayne's privilege and infinite resources and luxury.

Eh, the only way I'd want to see Bane again is if Reeves does 4 or 5 films. I really don't want him showing up and breaking Batman; having him incapacitated for half the film again. Maybe down the road when Pattinson's Bruce is older and has been through the ringer.

The same. I want to wait until this Batman universe is a perfect balance of grounded and comic bookie like the tone of Winter Soldier and Civil War. So when they used Babe,Killer Croc or Deathstroke, people won't be rolling their eyes.

I know breaking Batman's back was sort of his thing, but surely we can do a Bane movie where that doesn't happen?

As for casting, back in the DKR days, I thought Bardem could have made a cool Bane. Interestingly, he's the same age as Bautista. Both are probably too old for the role, but if it came down to those two, I'd rather go with the better actor than one who is closer to the right physique.

So Bautista then?

Yeah, Bane doesn't have to be on full steroids always, the actor can just bulk up to be in luchador physique like "El Santo Enmascarado" (the most famous latin luchador) which would be a cool inspiration.

honestly I can't say any of the major antagonists from the Nolan trilogy are people I wanna see for at least a while. Gimme Mr Freeze, Hugo Strange, maybe Court of Owls. Then in movie 3, just have the Nolan villains be in Arkham and be someone Batman has to fight in the gauntlet of being trapped at Arkham. I like the idea of Batman having already fought and beaten a bunch of his Rogues Gallery and they're currently just in Arkham. It's nice worldbuilding imo

Babe?! :awesome:

But yeah, would definitely be interesting to see Reeves' take on Bane. I feel that Bautista is in a sweet-spot of sorts when it comes to playing Bane, as a former wrestler turned serious actor. Provided he would be willing to take the role. Is he taller than Rob, I wonder?

I echo the Dave Bautista calls - he’s the only guy I can see as Bane now.

No Bane in these films please.

I guess I'd be down with seeing a Bautista Bane in James Gunn's corner of the DC-verse. But I don't want to see another riff on Knightfall in a movie, at least not for a long time. It's been done, and I think Bane works best as an 'endgame' sort of villain like Doomsday.

Bautista is not a good actor. Bane can be a compelling villain, but Bautista is just not a compelling actor at all. This is the problem with it comes to villains like Bane, people tend to gravitate towards wrestlers when it comes to casting. Just cast a reasonably fit actor.

Yeah I can’t see Bane with this still young Batman just yet. Feels too early to me.

Bautista is a decent actor, and Bane isn’t a character that requires Daniel Day-Lewis’s range to land well.

On the other hand I agree with @BatLobster that I’d rather stay away from Bane in favor of other villains and stories first. After Scarecrow in BB, Joker in TDK, Bane in TDKR and Riddler now I’d prefer to avoid the “Cataclysmic threat to the whole of Gotham” trope which is the only place Bane really fits.

I’d much rather they use characters that give an opportunity at more interesting stories.

he probably juices up, with the same green adrenaline shot/simulant cocktail Batman shot himself with

Bautista could totally play Bane, but with him being best buds with Gunn recently, I find it a lot more likely he'd be Bane in a James Gunn film, not A Matt Reeves film.

I definitely think he's capable of it though.
Bane in general is someone who I'm not itching to see with only 3 films. If we had 5 then maybe yeah.

But how do you go from Paul Dano, Colin Farrell, and John Turturro, to Dave Bautista? That's a huge step down in terms of acting talent. He works in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies because his character is so deadpan that his stilted acting makes sense. For Bane, a dead serious, standard tough guy take would be really boring, and that's what we'd be getting from him.

Also, how old should Bane be? Bautista is 53. Kind of feel whoever plays Bane should be near Pattinson's age, or younger.

I think you’re doing Dave Bautista a slight disservice there. His work in Bladerunner 2049 and Army of the Dead suggests he’s more than serviceable, and there he worked alongside supposedly better actors but one wouldn’t have said so. Although it’s short his scene at the beginning of Bladerunner with Gosling was great, he would definitely hold his own with any picks from the Batman.

At the same time Bane isn’t that far removed from a standard tough guy. He’s intelligent in a scheming and conniving sense, but he doesn’t show some vast emotional range or eloquence that requires an Oscar winner’s talents.

I’d agree that his age is a notable barrier, Bane’s physicality is a massive aspect of the character and unless a stunt double is doing the vast majority of it I could see it being an issue for Bautista.

I hope they go for other villains with more interesting stories in any case, though. I’m tired of the “The City/Batman are in danger from some existential threat” thing all the time. That’s mostly why I’m hoping they go for something closer to Heart of Ice and focus more on character interactions, because that was one of The Batman’s strongest aspects.

Benicio del Toro would be the dream pick for me.

If not, then maybe a buffed up Pedro Pascal could work too.

I’m in no rush to see Bane again. But Bardem or Bautista would be great choices. Either now, or back in the TDKR days.
