Tom Holland, Chris Evans & More In Talks to Star In The Devil All the Time

The Devil All the Time
film is based on Donald Ray Pollock’s 2011 novel of the same name. The novel’s plot is set in a place called Knockemstiff, Ohio, a forgotten backwoods of this country. The story follows Willard Russell who turns to prayers and animal sacrifices out of his desperation to save his wife who is succumbing to cancer. Meanwhile, his son Arvin (Tom Holland) is growing up from a bullied school kid into a man who knows when to take action.

The cast of characters includes a serial killer couple, a faith-testing preacher and a corrupt local sheriff (Chris Evans) in a story told across decades.

The film will be directed by Campos who will also pen the adaptation along with Paulo Campos. Randall Poster, Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker of Ninestories Production are set to produce the film. The Devil All the Time‘s production is scheduled to begin in February 2019.

Well.........

This sounds INCREDIBLE! It's cool to see Evans breaking type so much these days with sleazy characters like this and his Broadway turn in Lobby Hero.

Ugh, Bucky-Cap, away with that crap.

This sounds pretty intriguing though, nice cast.

Netflix did some serious flexing today announcing Linklater's Apollo 10 1/2 and the imminent date for this. And they got the new Charlie Kaufman with Jesse Plemmons, Jessie Buckley, Toni Collette, and David Thewlis in early September!

I hope this is a Netflix film that feels more cinematic versus straight to dvd looking production value. Netflix does a better job with their limited series than their films.

Based on the technical crew I think this is gonna be more like The Irishman, Roma, Beasts of No Nation, etc. level of Netflix-made cinema.

If this really is on that level than it really will be something special. Mudbound, Beasts of No Nation, The Irishman and Da 5 Bloods are cinematically some of there best looking films IMO.

A film with this cast in the award season would be dope. I doubt they want only make a blockbuster with that cast crew.

I hadn’t realized Riley Keough and Jason Clarke were in this.

Oh, yeah, no, it's not gonna be a blockbuster type movie.

Antonio Campos did Afterschool, Simon Killer, Christine (Rebecca Hall is so good in that one), first season of The Sinner. He is a good drama / psychological thriller writer-director.

The book he is adapting here is in a Cormac McCarthy vein.

I think Lol Crawley is a very underrated DP, and Campos has a keen eye as a director, the way Afterschool and Christine were shot was so interesting and well-done.

Also the film has Craig Lathrop, the production designer on The VVitch and The Lighthouse.

From what I've read, it'll be pretty dark. Tom Holland talked about how he'd never had to simulate murdering someone before, and there's also a corrupt sheriff, a serial killer couple, and all kinds of other messed-up stuff going on.

There are a lot of characters, obviously. Holland's is sort of the central one, I guess, and fascinating.

See Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson in first look at 'The Devil All the Time'

“Tom is a very sweet person and a very generous actor but he's willing to go wherever he needs to go emotionally for the character," says Campos. "He wanted to go where he had to go. Tom’s electric. He’s sort of sitting there doing nothing and is immensely watchable."

Robert Pattinson, meanwhile, plays a preacher named Preston Teagardin.

"Rob prepared a bunch of ideas and you don’t know what you’re going to get but it’s all interesting," says Campos. "The character coming to life — I saw that in front of me when we were on set."
