Fantasy Netflix's Live-Action Avatar: The Last Airbender General Discussion Thread

First reaction: STOPT USING THE VOLUME FOR NIGHTTIME STUFF.

I will watch it, but the difference in production styles/values is so painful when compared to One Piece.

Too early to judge the quality of the show, but visually, it looks bad. Could still be entertaining, but man, coming off One Piece to this is just.... rough.

Looking a bit artificial, but I figured it'd be a very heightened reality show. If they stick to how things look in the original, it was always going to be. I'd rather that than dull realism. They definitely have my interest.

Dodgy effects aside this looks pretty awesome to me. Hopefully, they are still working on the CGI since they still have some time until this comes out but I already think Momo looks perfect.

I'm really digging the EPIC tone too.

Eh, the show looks like it's taking itself too seriously.

The cartoon's best part was its charming tone. So far, I don't feel it present in this show.

I mean, it is a teaser trailer at the end of the day. I don't imagine the whole show will be like this. Plus some people are acting as if the show was 100% lighthearted which... no? If it has the same balance of tone just with an edge due to no Nickelodeon restrictions, it won't necessarily be a bad thing. It just depends on how it's executed.

For example, I like that they're showing the Air Nomad genocide in this which is something they never would have gotten away with in the animated show.

Good lord the visuals here are hideous, imo. There's not much else to judge yet, but as a first impression...not great.

The cast looks great. (I was not ready for Azula to be that adorable)

But it is so goddamn obvious they are on the Volume, it hurts.

Everything looks really cheap and artificial. I wasn’t loving the photos that were released earlier but I thought maybe it would look better in motion. Looks like that won’t be the case unfortunately.

Looks good to me, visuals match the TV show as far as I remember.
I don't mind the CGI etc, I'm used to it with the StarWars TV shows.
Yeah Momo !!

It’s looking really fun. I’m glad they’re getting another go to do it right

Looks great to me.
I only watched a few episodes when I was a kid. I always thought, that this will interest me more, if live action.
It looks that way (never seen the movie)

I am looking forward to binging this show at the end of February. Season two and three of the cartoon was probably the best cartoon series I have ever seen. I think season 1 was mid at best to be honest. I think one of the reasons the movie failed was because it was a carbon copy of season 1. Supposedly they change season 1 with actually showing the massacre of air benders. Gonna really bring the “feels” for Aang if you are new to the series. Azula and her friends will be introduced early. Hopefully showing the issues that she has with Zuko before he was banished. To me the saddest part of the show was the Zuko and Azula relationship. Their fight at the end of the series was heartbreaking. All because of their father. Hopefully we get a better understanding of Uncle and why he changed. If they get by season 1. Look out!!!!!

Good first look at the acting. Sokka is perfect. Katara and Zuko look to be good. Still unsure about Aang.

The action and bending look good. Even the costumes look good in action. But dear god, the volume is going to kill how good this show looks, which is a pity.
