Fantasy Netflix's Live-Action Avatar: The Last Airbender General Discussion Thread

Netflix want involve more ideas for there teen audience or limit budget?

I never wanted a live-action Last Airbender series; I wanted another animated series — be it a sequel series or an anthology prequel series that covers a different past Avatar each season. No offense to Bryke, but I always thought trying to rehash the same story in live-action was always a fruitless endeavor. I don’t care for live-action adaptions or remakes in general and always thought ATLA was best left alone in animation.

What I want know is now that Bryan and Mike have departed the project then does that mean Jeremy Zuckerman and Benjamin Wynn(otherwise known as the ‘The Track Team’) are also leaving the project? I have to imagine those guys are loyal enough to Konietzko and Dimmartino that they wouldn’t even dare consider the thought of doing the series without them.

Either way, it’s disappointing news that doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence in the project being good. Its especially sad that this news comes right after the show is experiencing a major resurgence in popularity thanks to its availability on Netflix(and Korra will also be available on Netflix this week). It’s pretty unfortunate that once again a live-action incarnation of ATLA will have no involvement from its original creators, but hey, it’s just how the cookie crumbles.

It’s disappointing news for sure :csad: but I’m still willing to give it at least a chance (though I may watch with a more critical eye now that they’re no longer involved)

Live action isn't animation and that could be the issue. They could have been having trouble translating their ideas to live action. Or it could be that they were simply unable to deal with the direction others took the canon. That's not always a sign that the direction is bad. Or they were just too possessive and were causing tension.

Honestly I hope they just cancel it at this point, it was a pointless project from the start, there's no way that this ends up being anything but inferior to the original show.

Seeing as Aaron Ehasz (head writer for 'The Last Airbender') already has a show on Netflix ('The Dragon Prince') I would not be surprised if they offered him the position as the new showrunner.

I was actually thinking of Ehasz but here’s the thing: Dragon Prince got renewed for four more seasons so he’s got his hands tied for awhile, and I think after this they would want to get showrunners who have experience in live-action. After all, it’s much easier to work with than people like Mike and Bryan who would essentially have this project be their learning curve on how to work in the medium. It’s not easy to transition from animation to live-action, just ask Andrew Stanton.

I’d say a realistic choice for a replacement would be Raven B. Mezner(who did Iron Fist season 2). Not a great choice, but the consensus was that Iron Fist season 2 was an improvement over season 1, and it’s generally positively reviewed, and maybe (if they’re not busy that is) they get Tony Krantz and John Wirth who did a martial arts related show called Wu Assassins. That might be a good fit as well.

Just waiting on Netflix to announce Benioff and Weiss as the new showrunners :(

I have an idea. Just go with me for a second.

We bring in M. Night Shymalan. Shymalan directs every episode of the live-action series...

That's it. That's the idea.
