Fantasy Netflix's The Witcher - General Discussion Thread

Not read the books but was triss a main character from the beginning?

Anya Chalotra is the only one that looks odd so far. Granted, I didn't see her in action. I'm not going to write her off yet.

Triss might not even be in the first season for all we know.

Also, it's not like casting directors always get it right. Olivia Munn was cast as a scientist in The Predator :p . Jessica Alba was cast as Sue Storm.

All the people who were up in arms about Ciri casting notice aren't saying anything about Chalotra either.

I know Yennefer is supposed to look young, but I don't think she has to look perpetually 22 years old. I think casting someone as young as Chalotra was a mistake. I mean maybe she can carry herself with a more mature attitude and gait, but I just don't see it.

The casting makes me think they're gonna play up the sisterly aspect between yennifer and ciri heavier than the mother daughter aspect.

I hope that doesn't happen. Based on the casting, that seems with what they've gone with. I get that magic gives Yennefer her more "attractive" and youthful appearance, but I don't think it needs to be fresh out of college youthful.

I don't think they're going to have much choice!

Chalotra has locked her Twitter account. Can't say I blame her. IMHO I think more actors should do that.

Look, I might have my misgivings, but I'm not going to attack any actor over it. Chalotra was offered a huge role, and who wouldn't take it?

Glad to hear it's not "exactly" gross........I'm 13 years older than my wife.

My point is that Geralt and Yennefer are supposed to be closer in age/experience. Though she uses her magic powers to look "young."

So they made Fringilla black. Either they changed the character completely, or it doesn't make much sense, cuz she's a relative of Ciri and Anna Henrietta.

Fan communities can be beyond cancer. If you don't like it for whatever reason, just don't watch, move along. Nobody owes you anything and nothing gives you a right to harass or attack an actor or anyone for that matter...

I'm glad they didn't do it with Ciri at least. They can just make up some malarkey about Fringilla. Either she's a distant relation to them, her mother or relatives married into the family, adopted, or not related at all.

Look at how fans treated Ruby Rose for "not being gay enough." It's disgusting. She actually got harassed on social media for that.

Yen has a maturity to her.

This is a simplification and taking the PR speak on what happened with the Rose casting. There were people like that, but that was far from the majority.

Her words, not mine:

“Where on earth did ‘Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be batwoman’ come from? I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with “she’s too gay” how do y’all flip it like that? I didn’t change.”

Yen has a maturity to her.

Her maturity is because she's biologically closer to 100 years old. Granted that's fantasy and all, and Anya Chalotra will have to put that through with her performance.

And look she might totally blow us away with her performance. I'm willing to admit that. Will wait and see.

They better make her unrelated or adopted. She can't be a distant relation to them, because she's a cousin of Emhyr. Emhyr is Ciri's father, and since Ciri, as we can see, is whiter than white, it won't make any sense. She can't be related to Emhyr.

Overall, this is why creators of Game of Thrones were smart. All these medieval fantasy stories are packed with dynasties. Everyone is someone's relative. Change one character's race, especially of one with a hint of royal blood, and there you go...

Oh I know. But just in general. Triss is the overtly "younger" one, where as Yen comes off more like she is in her late 20s, early 30s.

All true. I didn't know they could lock their twitter. Don't know why I hear about people deleting the whole thing if they can do that.
