Wrong. Just the writer/showrunner giving her thoughts about the characters of The Witcher story.

I think going straight in to the saga books would be a mistake. Use the short stories in season one to help flesh out the world and bring character introductions. The short stories of how Geralt not only gets Ciri from the law of surprise to how he ends up with her, but also how he became the butcher of Blavikan, how he meets Yennifer etc.

Missing out on those shorts would be a mistake IMO. And I really hope they don't.

The way the book is cut with Geralt at the 'Temple of Melitel' recovering from wounds and he tells Iola (a young healer) about these 'adventures' and how he ended up wounded. Then by seasons end, he and Ciri meet up etc.

I hope. So hope.

I mean don't we find out why he was wounded in that first story? You'd have to change the order around.

I want a whole flashback episode dedicated in a later season to The Road With No Return...if we get that far.

At the same time, I'm not really expecting straight adaptations of those short stories.

I'm not expecting a like for like retelling. I do think that using some short stories (such as where we are first in Cintra with Pavata, the Genie (The Last Wish(, The Dragon, where we see a young Ciri chasing Geralt just before the fall of Cintra and then how they finally get together with the father/daughter embrace) would realy be great for world building and character development.

If Netflix can doll out GoT-type cash for Marco Polo, they'll probably do the same for an IP that has an actual fan base going for it.

It shouldn't be all that hard to match GoT production standards with a similar budget given the crazy amount of key actors they have to shell out for. This really could be something big. And it looks like we have a lot more big fantasy shows to follow after Amazon's latest deals.

So good to hear all these characters could be appearing. Hopefully this has GoT production standards and takes off in the same way.

Once again, she wasn't confirming all those characters were appearing. #FakeNews. Hissrich was simply going over some of her favorite characters and breaking down the traits. News sites and blogs then started running with the idea that she was confirming which characters will show up in the first season. She wasn't. She also addressed this after the fact in her later tweets.

This is why social media as news is garbage IMO.

Oh ok. It does mean the chances of these characters appearing could be good if the show takes off and gets a good number of seasons.

I mean considering this is a Netflix TV series, the chances of all those characters appearing on the show were pretty good regardless considering they are among the most prominent characters in the books. ;)

Yes, I guess so lol. Just very exciting to see all their names written out and the writer putting down thoughts about them. Makes it all seem real and material. Can’t wait to see a glimpse of this.

Yes it is exciting, but I almost wish I could freeze myself in carbonite and get unthawed when the first season is out.

This is why the internet and social media are tough for me. I almost wish I didn't know this was coming until right before it did. Knowing we have to wait about two years or so, 1.5 at the least is going to be tough. But there is still casting news to look forward to.

I love speculating about this stuff with other fans it makes the experience much better than before I joined the Hype. And there's tonnes of other stuff coming out between now and then to keep me busy. Just glad that fantasy seems to be making some serious inroads into TV shows finally.

I'm in the same boat, I'm so excited for this, but I wish I didn't even know it was happening, the wait is going to be brutal.

I'm taking this time to actually read all the books. Just finished The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny.

I'll read them before the show starts too.

If you've played the games, read them just for that. Gives the games even more depth IMO. Even though the games do take some liberties and they are not official sequels, they're great to just add to the games lore.

But yeah, I do hope they make the first season based on the short stories first that lead to Geralt connecting to Ciri. They are vital IMO, not just in Geralt and Ciri, but helping build the world.

I always liked Geralt's line, "In every fairy tale, there's a grain of truth." I hope something like that gets worked in.

Yes. The books do have some cracking lines. That's a gooden :)

I’m a big fantasy novel fan so I’d read them even without the games, but I’m sure they will add a lot to the experience of the games too as you say. And then both will add to and be added to by this show if it turns out well.

Surprised no one here has mentioned the whole Mark Hamill and Vesemir thing that happened haha

Found it. Eh, it's cute, but not really serious. I doubt Hamill gets considered for Vesemir.
