Fantasy Netflix's The Witcher - General Discussion Thread

Yeah. I like Cavill and all, but just no to him as Geralt. If you do that it's only because you want like a big name in there. I wouldn't want someone like Jason Statham either.

That's not true.

I want him in this because he is hot :funny:

Cavill could play Cahir if they were aiming for him to be a bit older.

If they include Dudu Biberveldt in the series how would yall feel about Toby Jones playing him.

Why not Peter Dinkelage as Dudu? He'll need work after GoT is done ????

For all we know, Dudu might not even be a major character. Also, maybe Dinklage doesn't want to play the character.

Also to be perfectly honest, Dinklage isn't even really all that inspired for Dudu. The only reason people think that way because he's a dwarf height character, and Dinklage played a character like that on a dark fantasy series already. Not saying he could never play Dudu, but there's no telling what plans they even have for the character.

The main ones you have to look at are Geralt, Yennefer, Ciri, Triss Merigold, Emhyr/Duny, Dandelion, and probably people like Vesemir, Eskel, Lambert, Regis, the Lodge of Sorceresses, maybe Vilgefortz as a seasonal villain.

They could cast Ciri as a little girl with the hopes she will grow up with the show like the Stark girls on Game of Thrones. So they might cast like a 12 year old as Ciri.

It would be nice if we got some sort of casting news, at least a list of who's auditioning for what.

Really looking forward to seeing some concepts.

Well speaking of casting, two casting sides or scripts got leaked for Yennefer for the show. One with Geralt and one with an unknown king. Apparently written just for casting purposes.

Showrunner Lauren Hissrich talked about them on Twitter, basically confirming they are legit casting sides, but won't be used in the show, which is pretty normal.

Honestly, the Geralt and Yennefer scene seems OK for the most part. I'm only thrown off by things like "power couple" and the king character. I hope they don't have super-contemporary, anachronistic dialogue. I don't expect it to be Middle English, but the time period is basically supposed to represent the 13th century. I guess this technically isn't "our" world, but it's reminiscent of Poland/Europe during the Middle Ages.

I saw the excerpts and for the most part didn't have a problem with it. I imagined it like a cut scene in the games. Granted anachronisms won't bother me much since Shakespeare was notorious for it in his plays but I do agree it shouldn't be so obvious. Hissrich did say they wouldn't be in the actual show so as of right now I'm not worried.

I do hope a scene with Yen and Geralt talking before Thanedd does happen cause I imagine it would be a fun word duel between them.

What, you don't want Yennefer and Triss to be "frenemies"?

They can be frenemies, but I don't want them to SAY frenemy. Or phrases like "pretty please."

The Yennefer and Geralt banter in the casting side was on point for the most part. Geralt doesn't like aristocratic gatherings or dressing up. But Yennefer would never say a term like "power couple."

i think Yennefer says pretty please sarcastically in TW3 and didn't seem out of place. I guess it depends in the anachronisms they use. Power Couple definitely seemed off.

The english translations of the witcher books and games have always seemed to have normal modern English and syntax. The only time they had obviously flowery english was in Blood and Wine in Toussaint, but that was because Toussaint Knight's deliberately speak in a very formal archaic way when they are carrying out their knightly duties.

It's not that modern and no one says power couple.

I think what you're saying is the characters dont use modern slang terms. And sure that's true, but this is just a test script for screen tests. I doubt they were at all concerned with authentic appropriate dialogue. They just needed to put together a quick and dirty script for the auditioning actors to use. I wouldnt worry about it much.

Am I over-analyzing this? Yes. But it's all we have to really go on right now.

I'm willing to give Lauren Hissrich a shot here, but I don't think she's ever been head showrunner before. So, I hope she's up for the task.

I would accept these kind of puns though:

Dadgum, I love Yennefer! Strong-willed emancipated waifus are best waifus. Her tongue is sharper than Wolverine's claws.

Honestly I can deal with the growing pains of a first season, Black Sails is a great example of sticking it out as it became amazing after the first season, but having actors who perfectly embody Geralt and Yen will go a long way.

Also I replayed the Mass Effect series and romanced Miranda because she's basically Space Yen lol.

It's funny you mention Black Sails. That show is the reason I want Zach McGowan to play Geralt.

I hadn't considered him, but he would be really good as Geralt.
