Fantasy Netflix's The Witcher - General Discussion Thread

Who is y'alls composer choice?

I'd love for Abel Korzeniowski to do the score. Or Bear Mccreary.

I pretty much agree Neno_Kos. It's not the most inspired no-brainer casting choice IMO.

I think Cavill's casting means that Netflix is at least going to put a lot of muscle into this show and make it big and the show will get a huge push. I just hope the production elements and values are there. More so than what they've been for the Marvel shows.

Granted a lot of fans are going on and on about Mads Mikkelsen. Granted, I like Mads Mikkelsen as an actor, but I simply never saw him as Geralt. Plus he's in his 50s.

Geralt's a lad who has been through some crap, but he still comes across like a guy his his mid-to-late 30s. A very experienced mid-to-late 30s, but that's the basic gist of it. He is an older gentlemen, but the Witcher mutations slow down our aging as well.

I hope whoever scored The Witcher 3 does. The soundtrack was fantastic and the main theme is so memorable, especially when playing at Kaer Morhen.

I also never saw Mads as Geralt. I didn't have anyone specific in mind, but Mads is old and doesn't give me a low-born vibe. He would make a great king or a sorcerer though, imo.

Skellige theme is the most memorable for me. It's just... ahh. I want to move there.

Just heard about Cavill getting confirmed. Hope he can do a great job with it and good luck to him. Really hope they get this series right.

Ultimately, what will make or break the adaptation for me - supporting cast. Ciri, Yennefer and other. Geralt isn't a hard character to cast.
I’ll be very intrigued to see who they bring in for those 2 roles. Crucial for sure.

I am very interested in seeing this, the general world intrigues me & has done for a while. I've been meaning to actually pick the games up in a Steam sale & I may do so to engross myself in the general concept more.

I wonder did Cavill's casting spawn from that fan art from BossLogic, he did one months ago with him as Geralt that I recall.

For the most part I liked the game's score, but some of the vocals were overdone and just plain obnoxious. I wouldnt want those in the score for The Witcher show.

I think during the press tour for Mission Impossible, Cavill stated that he would want to play Geralt because he's a fan of the books and he was doing a second play through of Witcher 3. After that BossLogic did the fan art. So maybe all it took was an actor stating their desire for the roll to get it.

Nah, the showrunner said he first started talks with them about it 4 months ago, which means he knew this was a very real prospect at the very least when all that went down during the MI6 press tour.

Yennefer's personality is very important to me. Strong-willed, emancipated waifu. For whatever reason whenever I play Witcher 3, I can't go with Triss. I simply couldn't get enough of Yennefer's personality. Maybe it's her sense of humor. I really enjoy her dry wit. Like when Geralt tells her about going to fight Imlerith with Ciri, and Yennefer is like "Good I'm glad you went with her." And Geralt's so surprised, "What if we had lost." Without even losing a beat, Yennefer replies, "Then we wouldn't be having this conversation. And the female half of the continent would be drowning in tears."

Yup, as flickchick pointed out, when Cavill said that, he had already met with the showrunner about the series. I guess that was his way of signaling there was some interest and potential in him doing it.

Keep in mind, he was making almost no mention of Superman during that press tour.

As for the game, I love the music for the games because it sounds very in period with the time, but it also sounds very magical and other-worldly. Check out the themes for Skellige and Kaer Morhen to get what I mean:

I'd very much like if the show could have a similar sound. That transports you to a magical, other-worldly place that's similar to ours but also very different.

I could see him as Vesemir, Regis, or an older Emperor Emhyr depending on what direction they go with him.

Considering his version of Hannibal Lecter, I could very much see him as Regis if he's in the show.

Triss is a girl I'd have a fling with and remain friends with. Yennifer is the one I'd want a relationship and life partnership with.

Yeah, but in the game, having a fling with Triss means no lifetime partnership with Yennefer ;) . You can pretty much fling with every other female you come into contact with. But you can't with Triss.

Triss is very sweet and all, but Yennefer was really the girl I wanted Geralt to end up with. Yennefer likes to boss Geralt around, but I have the feeling that Geralt enjoys it that way. He doesn't like a relationship of ease and comfort. Calm and quiet.

Cerys seems to have the Geralt/Yennefer relationship dead to rights. "Seems to happen to all men. Take a rowdy Skelliger, a tough knight, or a brave Witcher. You all end up wrapped around a women's finger."

Who knows, but it can’t have hurt.

Chances are Cavill was likely already cast when that fan art came out.

Cavill even posted about it on August 8. He had already seen Lauren Hissrich months ago. Dollars to donuts, he already knew he was playing Geralt at this point.

Jesus Christ. I just tried watching Grace’s video about this news, I guess because I’m a glutton for unbridled torture.

There’s a lot to unpack there but basically, she says this announcement is “embarrassing” for Cavill because it’s proof that he’s failed as a movie star and is most likely no longer DC’s Superman, but that’s no suprise because she “hears things” (Trump voice) about Cavill being disliked in Hollywood for being an all around horrible person.

Oh and also, all movie stars who are doing TV are only doing it because their box office numbers are crap and they can’t hack it in movies. She uses Chris Hemsworth, Amy Adams and Bryan Cranston as examples. That was the point where I turned it off. I probably missed some interesting tidbits about Steven Spielberg being a failed filmmaker or Daniel Day Lewis being being unwatchable but I guess I’ll just have to live with myself.

ill prob get slammed for it, but i feel like Cavill needs to lean out a bit to look just right. geralt isnt superman buff.

You shouldn't watch her channel or videos. She totally trashed Wonder Woman and Gal Gadot before it came out and said it was going to bomb.

Here you go. Pretty much says it all right here

I won't slam you for it at all. I agree. Geralt in good shape yeah, but I don't think he should be as super buff and swoll as Cavill has been for Superman.

Yennefer's personality is massively more rich than Triss. I forced myself to choose Triss during one of playthroughs just to see different routes and endings, but eh... Between the two it's Yennefer all the way. Strange thing, people with most annoying tempers seem to be best drinking buddies - Yen and Lambert.

When it comes to waifus, for me it's Shani or Cerys (or Iorveth).

Cavill will be happy not to lift tons of iron for the job. He needs to get a bit more lean for sure.
