Fantasy Netflix's The Witcher - General Discussion Thread

What the **** man?

They couldn't just make the Zerrikanian bodyguards black or something? They have to make unnecessary and pointless race changes? Watch Triss also be a POC.

All true. I didn't know they could lock their twitter. Don't know why I hear about people deleting the whole thing if they can do that.

Maybe not lock, but it's been set to private or whatever. It's 2018 and a lot of millennials don't understand their social media accounts. Go figure.

Well technically, Yennefer is a POC in the show.

Oh I know. But just in general. Triss is the overtly "younger" one, where as Yen comes off more like she is in her late 20s, early 30s.

Yeah I always saw Triss was the older sister figure to Ciri, and Yennefer is the stern mother figure. Unless makeup, costuming and lighting plus performance are all that good, it's hard to envision Chalotra nailing that. But whatever, not gonna boycott the show.

I mean, MyAnna Buring, love her, is playing Tissaia which seems great casting at least.

I noticed Dandelion/Jaskier is absent from this list as well. Maybe we won't see him for a while, unless he hasn't been cast yet.

Yeah I'm not thrilled about it either but at least it can be explained that Vengerberg might have a population that is Greek/Roman looking.

But having someone so closely related to Emhyr, father of Ciri, be so completely different? Stupid.

They won't be revealing the entire cast right away, I believe. Pretty sure Dandelion will be in this, because why the f not?

I'm not crazy about it either, but considering they sort of went the right way with the central characters of Geralt and Ciri, I'm not going to complain too much about it. I imagine the show either won't address it or will basically lampshade it, or they will change Fringilla's relations.

Well there's no telling who will or won't show up in the first season. It will only be eight episodes. Or what changes to the story will be made.

I mean why tell us the casting for a one-off featured character like say Renfri, but not Dandelion?

While I agree my entire problem with race changing Fringilla is...WHY? What purpose does it serve other than to piss off die hard fans, which will be the foundation this show will rely on?

I'm not going to try and surmise why they opted for the change, other than I imagine the producers felt they needed a more diverse cast for this show for some characters, hence the casting for Yennefer and Fringilla.

I mean Sabrina could've been race changed and i wouldn't care

I don't understand some of the hate for unknown actors. I mean, how many of you bald bastash were aware of them GoT cast? Sean ''I Die in Every Movie'' Bean does not count.

I wasn't aware of anyone and not really interested in Game of Thrones at all. Hadn't read a single Song of Ice and Fire book and still haven't. Wasn't really invested or interested in who was playing who or cast as which character.

However, I do recall all the Stark kids and Daenerys being all very young in the books and the show made them much older, at least in the case of Robb Stark, Jon Snow, Daenerys.

I knew quite a few of the GoT cast actually. But the GoT situation was never an issue, because they did seem to cast them as a described in the books, just some of them were older. Something GRRM admitted he should of done considering the stories.

Yeah having a 12-year-old Daenerys would not have flew even in 2010.

So you had seen most of the Stark actors before? I for the most part prefer unknowns for series. Eh. Netflix ain't cheap, so the idea of them only using the money on Cavill is ridiculous. I'm seeing that comment over and over on the reddit Witcher thread. Some of them reactions are hilarious tho.

Yen actress is technically poc too, but at least they can keep the original look from the books and games with her.

Also, after seeing the actress perform, I think she doesn't look too young. She can probably put on a mean face.

If this show has to rely on dirhard fans then it I doubt it will go beyond a first season. This is Netflix's GoT, majority of the viewers watching probably will not be that knowledgeable of the where the roots of this show.

But I am happy that the apocalypse has been averted for some people and that they now can enjoy the show.

And did people revolt against the game for not being accurate to the books?

Well, CDPR kept the essence of her looks. Pale skin, raven hair, black and white outfit, mean attitude. Yet delivered a very good look that stood on it's own. Earlier design of Yen actually was really close to the book description, but then they decided to make her face look more mean and remade it late in development. For good. I only read complaints about Yen is that she's less likeable in the game, in comparison to the book. Which is rather fair. When I played the game for the first time I wasn't prepared (didn't read the books prior to games). I just kept thinking "what the hell is your problem, woman?". But she won me over as the game progressed. :D Anyway, people are willing to accept changes, as long as it's not that big of departure.

The casting didn't avert the apocalypse for me. While Ciri and Geralt casting seem to be great, based on looks. Fringilla and Yen... Ugh. I'm not sure and I need to see more how they're going to deal with all that stuff. They still can **** it up in myriad of ways. Never underestimate PC writers and showrunners.

I'm willing to give Chalotra a chance even though it looks like the role has been miscast. I just find it hard to believe she was the best choice.

I assume this is the Yennefer design we are referring to. A more triangular face.
