Well I'm not familiar with how Netflix works. Can someone fill me in?

I'm not sure how much they might veer off from the book story, but the book saga is over and done with at least.

So the writers don't have an excuse in the case of the book series being unfinished and running out of material to adapt.

Oh, they don't have a choice. The games are also a continuation anyways. A sequel to the books.

Well yeah of course. This show is an adaptation of the books, and it has been from the beginning. And another thing, I've definitely seen a disconnect from fans who have probably never read the books and they only know about this franchise due to the games.

The books and games actually have many differences. But for one thing, everything in the games takes place after the end of the books. CD Projekt RED basically produced topnotch, expensive fan fiction after Andrez Sapkowski signed over the game rights.

And yeah there are conceits and things about the games I find absolutely superior to Sapkowski's stories. I think there are ways they definitely elevated the material.

However, I find there's a lot of brilliance in the books as well. Sapkowski created amazing, indelible living breathing characters that I simply can't forget about. He has some great world building as well. And some of the dialogue, at least the translated versions, I think are brilliantly amazing as well.

Besides that they don't have the rights to the games. If they wanted to adapt those stories, they would have to probably have to sign a separate deal with CDPR.

I think fans who only know Witcher from the games are going to be whining and complaining about the differences when the show finally debuts.

Sorry, that is what I meant by not having a choice. But yeah, separate rights.

I got into the books because of the games. I love both, but I do think the games took the book material and enriched it quite a bit. Especially Kings and Wild Hunt. I do expect a lot of whining, but I hope the show is of a quality that it doesn't matter. I don't expect it, but I do hope so.

Oh definitely, like with Gwent. Like Gwent in the books is referenced, but it's more or less a game played with regular card and not the medieval version of Magic the Gathering. The games did that and made it amazing.

Also, the games expanded on Witcher schools, other Witchers and their methods, the medallions, Witcher school gear, weapons, etc. Some of my favorite quests were the treasure quests for the Witcher school blueprints. Also Witcher abilities were fleshed out more. Like Witchers are not sorcerers but they are bred to have low-level magic spells they can use with simple handsigns. In the books, Geralt hardly ever uses the sign magic.

Like if you have the ability to use things like signs wouldn't you use them more for practical use in battle?

I think the earliest we can expect anything is Comic-Con. I will be very surprised if there's no panel or anything.

I wonder if Netflix purchased the book rights only cause if their version flops maybe someone like HBO or Starz could just adapt the game's stories.

The armor designs for Nilfgaard have been getting a lot of controversy on reddit.

It is sort of oddly designed. Not sure why you would want your armor to look like a scrotum.
