Never understood this quote...

When Spider-man premiered around 6 years ago I was 12 now I'm 18 and still don't understand this quote.

It's when Aunt May is taken hostage by Doc Ock, and after spidey saves her he says.

"Well we sure showed him"
"What do you mean we?"-Aunt May
"Oh right.."-Spidey

I don't get it! Was it Aunt May that showed him or Spidey? lol

The joke is that Aunt May is taking all the credit for kicking Doc Ock's ass.
