Transformers New Bay Message 12/20/06

The Transformers, both factions, are treated little more than canon fodder. The Decepticons are lumbering, emotionless robots of death...not characters, not backstabbers, not charismatic tyrants; at least they are not developed as such.

Thats what appeals to me the most about them, they had personality, something we can relate to. For Bay to give us mindless drivel would be a complete kick in the nuts to what Transformers are about. Throughout movies and television some of the most remembered and popular characters are the ones that often stuggle with or try to find there humanity, its at that level that we can sympathise with them. Take for example Data from Star Trek : The Next Generation. He was an android that tried to find his humanity, and while the audience could relate to him they could also find imperfections in there own life. Its these kind of characters that stand out from the rest, helping us to learn more about ourselves. Who cares if Transformers was a cartoon about robots, they to had there problems, there imperfections, and thats what gave them life on the screen.

Well now, let's not go too crazy, because there are people here who just want to see an all-out action packed movie and nothing more. I think Bay can deliver that...just don't ask for anything more.

well that is the problem LOL.

Then i can see it getting based X3 way by fans.

I wouldn't say so. Saving Private Ryan is SKG isn't it? And, Munich is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. War of the Worlds, while not perfect, was pretty good and raked in $600 million. I also liked Minority Report. Oh, and A.I. is one of my favorite sci-fi movies of all time. So, no... I wouldn't say Spielberg has fallen off.

Yes, I had forgotten about Munich. Other than AI I didn't really feel the "wonder" as in his earlier films. I liked the whodunnit against the backdrop of a future metropolis feel of Minority Report. Great visuals as well. It appears Spielberg's tastes may have evolved or arguably grown up, for lack of a better word.

This one still thinks Hook is his best film. :woot:

I'm not going to trust an out-dated script, because things easily change in post-production, reshoots, etc.

I've simply chosen to just enjoy the film for whatever it is.

isn't that the same as deciding to hate a film before you see it?

Old Ferengi proverb: A fool and his money are soon parted. :cwink: (jk)

After what Murphy did with all his trashtalking against Iron Man on his own message boards, I kind of hope that Iron Man blows Transformers out of the water or totally outclasses it at least.

Transformers feels like X-men 3 all over again, but at least with X-men 3 we got 2 really good movies at least.

I'm sorry CFlash, but my daddy said we're not allowed to play anymore. :woot:

Ah, but you see, this one said ‘for whatever it is’…which really doesn’t mean anything in the long run, but whatever, I’m just going to enjoy the film what whatever it gives me and worry about what bugged me…when it’s time for a sequel. I mean, after all, the actors seem to be enjoying the experience, the director and other crewmembers seem to be enjoying the experience. Call this one soft, but I just cannot spit on another man’s hard work like that. Heck, after seeing it three times I actually kind of began to like X3 (although all of that behind the camera turmoil helped be give the film some slack) and the same with my seeing Superman Returns twice too…then again, that you-know-what Singer should have direct X3 first, but NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! He just had to direct his little Donner suck-up! I don’t care how much I enjoyed that film; he should’ve gone the route of Batman Begins! [/rant]

I tend to watch movies the same way. I don't think X3 was entirely horrible... mainly due to the actors and continuing story. But the movie had a "half-empty" and rushed feel... and all sorts of bad direction. Same with Fantastic Four. Superman Returns had a lame story... but was brilliantly directed (the flipside of X3) and was beautiful to watch.

In all honesty tho what I can't stand are the SUPER-dumbed out total-popcorn movies like Armageddon.... they're badly directed but with pure gloss and lots of $$$ cash to make them LOOK pretty. Pretty much all Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich movies fall into this category... as do Uwe Bowl except he doesn't have as much production $ cash to work with.

A.I. was brilliant. That movie is exactly what sci-fi is all about.
