NEW full TRAILER!!!

It isn't even that it isn't The Spirit. It is the fact that it looks like a terrible piece of film.

I agree that the new trailer doesn't make me want to see the movie, which is what a trailer is supposed to do; and I'm a fan of the character.:wow:

giving her the line "You make me want to do all kinds of bad things" makes me wish a woman would take a strap-on to Miller's ass and give him a black eye for good measure.

Now that's just plain funny.

hey guys can anyone post the transcript of the trailer... i dont understand the final part.. when scarlett said.. "you have to..??" can any one help me?

Anyway, people need to **** about it looking like Sin City. Yes, it looks like Sin City. You know why? Because its by the same f***ing director. It's his first solo film, give him a break. I think it looks great.
just because he directed/co-directed both movies doesn't mean they have to be almost carbon copies (visually) of each other. he may believe this is the way to contemporize the character for a mainstream audience, but no artist ever wants to make two pieces that look exactly alike whether it's on canvas or film, and he should have given this film its own look. if Sin City had never been released, we probably wouldnt have half of this complaining.

I think you have a point, but I think the bigger problem is that the look just isn't right for the Spirit. I think the criticism would be more along the lines of 'It looks unique, but just not right for the Spirit.'

well i'm only familiar with the original Spirit and i have no idea what kinda for changes the character went through since then. of course when i think of The Spirit i think of the blue trench coat and fedora, so with that picture in mind i still dont like what Miller is doing. i was just replying to his statement as an artist myself, and i feel what Miller has done with Spirit following the Sin City formula is a cop-out.

Guess what? It's not a carbon copy of Sin City. For one it's in color. Acually this one looks more like Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow which fits with the film noir quality of The Spirit.

the crying and moaning here is sometimes ridiculous. some of you, i value your opinion/distaste for it. because generally youre right, its not 100% faithful. and youre opinions are consistent from film to film.

but then theres those of you that bash this for not being faithful, yet youre staunch defenders of the X-Men/Biker Gang movies. you know who you are, the ones that flip flop on your beliefs from movie to movie. :whatever:

i personally look forward to this, its not 100% Eisner's spirit, but it looks entertaining.

p.s. anyone know the song?

well I LOVED the 1st teaser but yeah I really hope that was a lets put some asses in seats by showing sexy women and a plot driven trailer is coming up soon.

the colors are so desaturated that they barely count as color. and how about all the backgrounds with their high contrast and dramatic lighting? you cant look at what Miller has given us so far and not think it looks very similar to Sin City. and for the record, i said almost carbon copy.

and judging by the two Spirit trailers, Sky Captain (for the most part) was much brighter in color, scenery, and overall tone. only the beginning (New York at night) shares similar saturation/lighting as the majority of this trailer. of course we can't be certain until this movie comes out.

Can't really say that I'm interested at the moment.

It looks ok. The women are hot, and the Spirit looks like a goofball, so they got that much right. Not digging Sam Jackson's Octopus or the color palette. It'll be worth seeing.

A little off? The Octopus is suppose to be white and you're not supposed to see his face. He's more than a little off.:csad:
It's more than him being black or white, you really arent supposed to see his face. But instead Miller makes him an over the top moron who needlessly wears a billion different outfits. Did anybody see the part where the octopus is dressed up like a Nazi?

I mean, I've heard rumors that Miller was racist, but depicting an over the top lunatic of a black guy as a nazi is just.... confusing..

I've said this before and I'll say it again. (I like the sound of my own typing.) On it's own the trailer makes it look like this film could be a visually stunning, weird and sexy little movie. But knowing that it's an adaptation of the Spirit just makes me uncomfortable.

EDIT: To anybody who's interested, the song in the trailer is "Choke" by Hybrid.

I must admit I'm not that familiar with the Spirit, but this trailer does zilch to interest me in any way. Is the Spirit a hero or a pimp? Both maybe? What's up with the ******ed Robin mask? This doesn't look promising.

well speaking as an X-Men/Biker Gang fan i welcomed Singer's vision and changes because i thought they were a smart move considering when they came out comic films were considered a joke, and him playing it safe with uniforms (who woulda thunk a team would wear uniforms...) and grounding the movie considerably.

as far as The Spirit is concerned, i have no problem with a director, Miller included, taking liberties to make the character more accessible to the mass audience. my problem is when he hides this character under a Sin City facade because that movie was successful instead of giving it it's own look. but again, i am not a Spirit fan. so im just not watching because i dont think the movie looks good to begin with.

Maybe they chose sam jackson to play the octopus ( a master of disquise with a billion disquises) because Jackson has played in a billion movies. I would have picked a caucasian man and would not show his face.

I guess you could say he's both. Just like Bond.

The mask is supposed to be silly. See the comics.

...and I must say that if this doesn't look promising, I don't know what does.

In case you didn't know, Frank Miller's style in Sin City is derived from Will Eisner's film noir style in The Spirit comics. So, now you know.:cwink:

Also, in a relatively recent interview, Miller said they tested the blue color on The Spirit several times. It just didn't look good.

Miller's heroine, Martha Washington, is black. I very much doubt he's racist.

The trailer is very "blah." The girls are shown more than the TITLE CHARACTER, and the viewer never really gets a feel as to what this movie is about, exactly.

there is no hope for you all.

the black skin is the diguise. a different actor is playing him in the next movie. :hehe:

i remember one of the interviews saying you never see his true face.

well that still doesn't mean he couldn't give this movie its own look.
