New Joe? Fridays: Back in Wack

Even before the gift wrapping it looks like Spidey was giving Tony a hard time, if nothing else it will be nice to see a fight a little less one sided.
I guess. Although a Tony/Peter fight should be pretty one-sided as far as I'm concerned, especially now that Tony knows how to counter Peter's spider-sense. Venom nearly killed Peter loads of times thanks to that, and he didn't have 1/10th of the powers Iron Man does.

But doesn't Peter know that Tony knows? Hmm...

Spidey is known for overcoming vastly superior foes by out thinking them, out maneuvering them or sometimes by pure tenacity. Tony has gotten a lot of power lately, but he's also gotten overconfident, and he has a lot on his mind. It's nice to see him humbled.

It all comes down to the individual writer and what he wants to do with story.

That's always true. Lately Spider-Man has been underplayed (in terms of power not exposure) outside his own comic, and Ironman has been overplayed. I'm just hoping for a little equalization. In New Avengers I get annoyed at how Peter, who pretty much has more expirance than anyone in the room except Wolverine gets treated like a rookie.

I don't know...Peter was introduced first, but I get the impression that Luke's been nusting skulls since before Peter got his spider bite. Also, Danny seems like he's been at longer. Dr. Strange is certainly the oldest of the group, and has the most experience with....things (except for Logan).

I get what you're saying, though. Peter has the proportionate strength of a spider, yet outside of him just recently tossing a Jeep, we're not really shown that all too often.

Wasn't Danny trained at K'un L'un from when he was relatively young? Like, adolescent/high school-age? If so, he'd be more experienced than Peter, since Peter only got bitten when he was 15 and Danny's probably 5 or more years older than Pete.

As for Peter's strength, I think it's pretty much assumed that Peter always pulls his punches. He fights mostly bank robbers and normal humans, and if the writer is writing him correctly, he'd be absolutely mortified if he accidentally killed someone, so he plays it really, really safe and pulls his punches back to basically a really strong but normal person. At least, that's how I rationalize his utterly *****-like strength lately, in spite of all his recent upgrades.

I think you may be onto something with the overconfidence angle, Kitsune. Tony has gotten overconfident, and that may be the way Peter manages to outdo him in the upcoming arc. I don't really have anything against Peter beating Tony, it just seems very unlikely given all of Tony's advantages. It'd take some pretty crafty writing to make it plausible without being too convenient or making Tony himself look bad. He's not exactly easy to outsmart, after all, even if Peter is known for outsmarting foes.
