Highlights:

~ Joe shares his thoughts on Nextwave's cancellation.

~ The new director of SHIELD will be a "true American patriot".

~ Spider-Man will be ditching the Iron-Spidey outfit soon, and the reemergence of the black suit will mean the mourning of something, likely his marriage.
rolleyes.gif

~ No ground being made yet to bring back Captain Universe.

~ Jubilee's new thing will be starting in 2007.

~ The Astonishing X-Men delays seem to lie mostly on the editor shake up with Marts leaving, and Cassaday is expected to leave the title with Joss, and no successors have been decided on yet.

~ Expect there to be an "Earth-shattering" converstion between Hulk and Black Bolt or Namor when the former gets back to earth, even though both were against the decision to shoot him into space.

All the art was stuff shown before except this small preview from Civil War #5(and I do mean small):

Wow, what a lack of information. Either way, Steve Rogers is the new head of SHIELD. NOT!

Cannot wait for that Hulk moment with Namor and BB.

So Quesada finally gets his wish and has Peter and MJ split up. :whatever:

i was too young when Spidey 616 was single to enjoy those stories, all I've really known was a married Spidey. I mean I have read the classic Stan Lee stuff in the essential's trades but that stuff was from another time era.

I just finished reading Ultimate spider-man 1-100 and I love all the relationship troubles he goes through with MJ, BlackCat and Kitty Pride. And although I dig the stories in ASM I don't think I've EVER had as much fun reading Spidey as I have with USM. I think it would be interesting to see a 24/25 yearold single Spidey. A lot of sweet story opportunities. Plus it's not like MJ will ever go away for good, she's to Spidey what Lois Lane is to Supes and that ain't ever going away for good. So lets just see where this takes us. :ninja:

This is where I stopped reading.

I saw words that I've been waiting to see:

current delay is causing us to re-plan our overly-optimistic scheduling
Finally, an admission that Marvel's scheduling plans, about Astonishing, about, well, a MESSLOAD of comics, are "overly optimistic" from the onset and then they have to backtrack.

Joe Q, you're Mr. In Charge now. Eventually, you are going to have to trade "over-optimism" for realism. For looking at your company and the business, honestly and frankly, and working WITH it. Not whining about it, not hoping for the best, and not denying it. That's our job. Your job is to work with the market you have. You've admitted the problem, good. First step.

No optimism. Realism.

Baby steps for baby feet.

Well, a "black suit" is a pretty straight-forward metaphor, so let's ask straight-forwardly, who is Peter/Spider-Man going to be mourning?

JQ: Probably his marriage.
See what I mean?

I've typed some criticisms of Joe Q's tendancy to blame Spider-Man's narrative problems on his marriage, despite the fact that:

- Spider-Man has been married nearly 20 years in real time
- Since he has been married 19 years, and has been in publication for approximately 43-44 years, that means he was "single" for more than half of his history
- Every media depiction of Spider-Man that has been in movies and TV, from 1993 until now, has had MJ be the central love of his life to the point where a marriage was inevitable.
- Marvel & Howard Mackie already tried to "get rid of MJ and make Peter single again", both on Jemas' and his own watch. They both failed. The second time (when they were married but split) dissolved as quickly as the first film debuted.
- The real issues that plague Spider-Man narratively are the fact that his social life has disappeared, his supporting cast has vanished and no effort done to replace any who die, the character has had one "life shattering mega event" after the other happen to him for a good 3 years in year time without any moment to catch his breath and react like a real human being, that he gains arsenals of new powers and then never uses them because they're not as classic, and so on. The more Joe Q & the editors use the marriage as the scapegoat (a "blame the woman" approach if I ever saw one), the less likely they'll address THESE issues.

I doubt he is ever going to get it. So go on, split them up, get yourself on NEWSWEEK again. Lord knows He has a vendetta against any character married before his watch, hence why the Parkers and Richards are splittin', but of course the Cages' and the T'Challa's are "classics".

And it make me almost choke to see so much focus on why NEXTWAVE died, without stating the obvious; it stunk. Why no focus on THE THING, a far better book that didn't last as long? Because it wasn't as shameless in it's attempt for publicity, or because Ellis is a bigger name?

So according to Q, Spider-Man being married = bad, Spider-Man wearing a ****ty techno suit and becoming Iron Man's ***** = good.

What the ****?

THat seemed to come off as more of a joke to avoid answering the question then a legitimate answer. For a lot of the critisism people have of Joe Q, I don't agree with... his attitude towards certain marriages however...

Hahahahahaha!:D Nextwave did better than The Thing.

Right on.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, I love Dan Slott's work. Spider-Man/Human Torch made me give a damn about two characters whom I typically loathe and Great Lakes Avengers was a series that made me laugh out loud uncontrollably. That said, I'll take Warren Ellis and his warped sense of humor over Slott's good, clean fun any day.

*hides*

Of course it did. It was promoted better (all THING got was the obligatory articles in WIZARD and Newsrama that everything under the sun got; the rest Slott was on his own), had bigger name power, and most of all was vapid. Things of substance rarely do as well as those without. Otherwise, RUNAWAYS would be in the Top 10. And JACKASS TWO wouldn't have made a bajillion dollars. Or SCOOBY DOO spawning a sequal.

I thought of a worst idea, which may be accurate; Daisy Johnson. Sure, she's only 18, but Kitty was presumably younger when she got some SHIELD experience. And she's another original Bendis character who they may want to make a "mover and shaker". Pun intended.

It'd be a bad idea, of course. I can't stand her. Y'know why? Because she's unbeatable, and not only is she unbeatable, but she wins with zero effort. She's boring. Maybe Bendis figured, "hey, back in the 50's male characters were unbeatable and did it in no effort, it'll be original to turn the tables", but turning the tables doesn't make it of better quality. Boring is boring.

Or maybe it's because Bendis just likes writing heroines as being unbeatable and winning with zero effort, and then being arrogant about it. Read USM if you don't believe me. Every lady in spandex is unbeatable, and brags about it. Every one, from Elektra to Spider-Woman. 'Cept Black Cat, for storyline purposes, once.

You know, as much as Joe Q obviously hates the Spidey-marriage and wants to get rid of it, he definately was making a joke there just to rile people up as he always does. If Spidey wearing the black costume is supposed to be a sign of mourning after Civil War, perhaps something happens in Civil War #7 that allows for that, such as another death or series of deaths as a result of an invasion by Namor and Atlantis. As for the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D., I'm surprised nobody is thinking of the most obvious choice--Nick Fury.

To be honest I'd make that observation about nextwave.

And "the thing" had at least an A-list character something nextwave lacked.

Such a sore loser, aawwwwwwww!!!! I know I saw a promotion for The Thing in Marvel comics. Poor Dreadie-wedie!:( Scooby Doo? Really? That's your answer, Scooby Doo? You were expecting substance from a Scooby Doo movie? Seriously!:whatever:

I won't say anything in regards to the wedding thing since it annoyed the hell out of me when Quesadilla was going on about Speedball. I took it as a joke, but I can understand how people that are sensitive to the subject would be angry. At this point I don't know if he's being his annoying self or if he's telling the truth while masking it as being his annoying self.:o

Either Tony Stark or Nick Fury as the new head of S.H.I.E.l.D.

But not an A List writer, see where it all changes.

His stupidity never ends. It's ALMOST as big as he is. The pain...the horrible pain.

I hope youre talking about Joey Q and not me.

I thought you were one and the same DP.
