New Julian Interviews

Interesting.

No idea how the three costume variations now work since it appears Doom has the "power cosmic" while fully armoured (given he is riding a surfboard), yet must also have some kind of super-powers when "human" because he goes up against the Thing with no visible damage (other than to the wall behind him) or concern/anxiety.

Unless the "human" Doom is some kind of "mask/covering" that Doom wears after waking up in the box and ripping his metal mask off his face? Except he's also got "human" hands from the photo.

Wait and see I guess.

Cheers.

I believe he still has his electrical powers too.

Love this stuff...

"That was intense. The last month and a half of me shooting that was me in this outfit, which weighed, I think, between 40 and 60 pounds, depending on what cape I had on, which is a lot of weight to carry around. I was up on this [rig] about 50 or 60 feet high, with a half-cut-off surfboard."

Julian was on Jimmy Kimmel, talked about how much he was a fan of Dr Doom and Darth Vader growing up.

Nothing much he added except the audience was really excited when Jimmy asked about FF2 and the Silver Surfer.

FF2 awareness seems to be up there.

I think he would also have mentioned Premonition, which opens on Friday and which would have been the reason he was there!

Yeah, Highguard! Tell us all every word he said about "Premonition."
How could you leave that out?? :whatever:

^^ I am so sorry,

Yeah he talked about promonition a bit, he said, blah blah blah blah.......

There ya go, lol.

Should I mention that Sandra Bullock mentioned "Premonition" on Jay Leno last night too???? Hey, they even showed a scene from it....

But I'm pissed she didn't mention F4 2......lmao:cwink: Oh wait she was there to promote "Premonition" as well......stupid me.:word: :cwink: :cwink:

"Premonition" hmm oh yet that is correct, it is not Promonition is it. Oh and she talked about it, what was her take on it, that it is a good movie. I hear that the critics like it. I am afraid the summer has come early and if movies are not action or offbeat they are going to have a hard time, look at zodiac, critics loved that one, but then who knows.

Hey I saw 300, that movie was action to the walls. It was full of energy. A movie that you would want to see again.

There was not much to it other than Persians came to conquer, 300 men stood in their way and what an obstacle they presented. It was one of those movies that reminded me why I love movies.

Cause they take you to times and periods and situations that you wish you could have seen.

A time when men lived and died for something and because life was so temporary you really numbered your days, neverhteless there will be time for glory once again, I shall yet...... ummmm live to work another day?

Life is a great gift man, a great gift.

Ok its a slow day around here today so I guess that is my 300 review.

It was great.

Exactly. As long as you provide a link...it's cool.

New one at Dark Horizons. Yeah I know I used the C2F link. I'm lazy. Anyways I guess Doom survives the end of this film. McMahon is contracted to do either another Fantastic Four film or another film at Fox. I guess it depends on whether Fox needs him or not or wants to use him for FF3 or another film.

Fox is doing a big-screen feature length of Nip/Tuck, with Julian doing reconstructive facial surgery on Doom. Doom skips on his bill, though. What an ungrateful sob...

He's also done an interview with Wizard in which he answers several questions about Doom:

THE WIZARD Q&A: JULIAN MCMAHON
The Fantastic Four’s archvillain talks his ‘Premonition,’ Doom’s wardrobe and why Carl’s Jr. disturbs him
By Jake Rossen

javascript:openBrWindow('http://www...ble=yes,scrollbars=yes,width=800,height=600') Australian-born actor Julian McMahon seemingly has the market cornered on seething menace: He’s won raves for his performance as sexcentric plastic surgeon Christian Troy on FX’s “Nip/Tuck” and as iconic antagonist Doctor Doom in 2005’s “Fantastic Four” feature.

In “Premonition,” opening March 16, McMahon plays the comparatively normal husband to seer Sandra Bullock, oblivious to his wife’s vision that he’ll soon perish. We recently spoke with McMahon—presumably not a Doombot—for the scoop.

WIZARD: You filmed “Premonition” in Louisiana shortly after Hurricane Katrina hit. What was the mood like on set?

MCMAHON: A lot of the crew on the movie was from New Orleans, and they had lost everything—their clothes, their passports, their photographs. There was nothing left of their lives except for themselves. That was sad, but to see them and how positive they were, how sturdy and ready to rebuild, was pretty touching.
javascript:openBrWindow('http://www...ble=yes,scrollbars=yes,width=800,height=600')What drew you to the role of Jim, the soon-to-be-deceased husband of Sandra Bullock?

MCMAHON: The fact that Sandra was doing it. After reading the script, I thought that it was an interesting piece and a kind of variation from characters I’ve played before. I’d watched [director Mennan Yapo’s] “Soundless” and thought it was pretty extraordinary. There were just a lot of pieces of the puzzle that made it pretty obvious I should play this part.

On the surface, it seems like Jim isn’t nearly as diabolical as the Doctors Doom or Troy. Was that a selling point?

MCMAHON: Absolutely. I get a chance to express myself differently. It was just a good opportunity to play a normal guy. The characters I’ve been playing for the last few years have been a little out there. They’re kind of diabolically performance-oriented characters. It was just nice to play somebody who was a little more mainstream.

Have you ever had a premonition of your own? Do you believe in that kind of phenomena?

MCMAHON: Not really. I’ve had those things where someone calls and [before you answer] you think it’s them, miniscule things. But certainly nothing as large [as what’s in the film].

I have to point out that you never fail to have an amazing-looking female co-star, regardless of what you’re doing. Is this a contractual stipulation? When will we see you with someone fat, bald and male?

MCMAHON: [Laughs] You know, that’s my next move.

javascript:openBrWindow('http://www...ble=yes,scrollbars=yes,width=800,height=600')“Nip/Tuck” starts shooting its fifth season in June. Do you have any preferences for where you’d like to see Doctor Troy go this year?

MCMAHON: The third season I didn’t like, but the rest of the time I like where they sent him. We all know what we enjoy about Doctor Troy and I think we need to continue that. Just mix it up.

With your schedule on “Nip/Tuck,” do you ever feel more pressure to choose your feature roles carefully? Like, “I gotta make this one count”?

MCMAHON: Yeah, definitely, but at the same time, it’s also, “Can I get out there and play something else?” I get sick of playing Christian Troy by the end of the season. I want a break or the opportunity to play a totally different character and just work with different people.

One of the aspects of being an actor is that you want to be part Gypsy. I love meeting different people. I love working with different crews and different actors, different personalities, different locations, going to different parts of the world. You get all those opportunities when you do different things.

Were you happy with the first “Fantastic Four” movie?

MCMAHON: Yeah, I was very happy with it.

javascript:openBrWindow('http://www...ble=yes,scrollbars=yes,width=800,height=600')Will Doom be getting a new costume for the sequel?

MCMAHON: Absolutely. None of the costumes from the first one come through to the second one. He has a lot of costume changes. I don’t know where his clothier is from, but he’s obviously got a good one. The final Doctor Doom costume is pretty extraordinary.

What sort of relationship does Doom have with the Silver Surfer? Any hints?

MCMAHON: Pertaining to the comic book, which is where everyone gets their inspiration from, Doom has always been the kind of character that wants to rule the world and destroy the Fantastic Four. That was his mission throughout the comic and cartoon. He does whatever he can to manipulate powers and people and things to get what he wants.

I notice your Doctor Doom action figure looks more like Patrick Stewart than you. Does the studio send you a crate of them to hand out at Christmas? Do you get into all of that?

MCMAHON: I remember driving through Carl’s Jr. with my daughter and getting their [kid’s meal]. And inside, there was this miniature Doctor Doom doll. My head was literally half the size of a pea. It was pretty hysterical.

Look, some of that stuff is great to keep. You don’t want to get too cynical about this business. I loved the FF when I was a kid. I never want to forget that. You keep bits. It’s not like you hang it on your mantelpiece so everyone can see it, but so what? It’s cool stuff.

If Doctor Troy had an action figure, what would his accessory be?

MCMAHON: Definitely a quick access to get his pants off. [Laughs]

Julian is making this sound too good to be true...I think this time around, Doom is going to kick so much ass...I can't wait...

I'm excited. New, "leaning to comics" costumed Doom. Gained the Power Cosmic... I'm excited

One thing I am curious about...with his castle in the film, will we actually get to see the exterior of the castle, or just the interior? Will we see, if even for a moment what Latveria might look like?

I would assume so, I couldn't see Story not showing at least the exterior of the castle.

Thanks to Sue over at the McMahoniacs board, she found a radio interview with Julian from Friday where you can advance it towards the end and he talks a bit at the end about the time he spent shooting the FF sequel. Now we know that he was up in Vancouver a lot more than we heard because he says that some weeks he would spend 3 days filming the FF and 4 days filming Nip/Tuck and then the next week did the reverse. He says there were some days he would bring "Doom" to the set of Nip/Tuck. I can just see it.... "Insolent wench, how dare you complain about your implants?? I constructed them out of the highest grade adamantium!!

Link to interview,
Kevin and bean interview with Julian
then scroll down to about the fifth one.
