I've recently gotten interested in politics. I'm a registered democrat. I was wondering what were some of of the differences in what Obama says he's going to do and what McCain says he's going to do.

I know Obama is for ending the war, universal health care, and I believe gay marriage. But I have no idea what McCain is for. Any information would help (I really don't want to look through hundreds of pages in the Obama/McCain threads).

And no, Obama does not support gay marriage, he supports the "Separate but Equal" institution of civil unions.

My mistake then. Someone at work said he supports gay marriage so I just assumed he knew what he was talking about on the subject because he's gay.

Gay Marriage
Obama: supports civil unions, opposes gay marriage

McCain: sees it as a state issue, personally opposes it

Abortion
Obama: supports abortion, has a 100% rating from NARAL

McCain: opposes abortion, wants Roe v. Wade overturned and wants to ban abortion except for instances of rape, incest, and risk to mother's life.

Health Care
Obama: supports universal health care, wants to bring down premiums to less than $2,500.00 for the typical family. Supports mandatory health care for children

McCain: supports open-market competition for health care with tax credits up to $2,500.00 for individuals and $5,000.00 for families who do not subscribe or have access to health care insurance through their employer.

Iraq War
Obama: wants all combat brigades out by the summer of 2010, keep a limited amount of troops in to train Iraqi forces and provide protection to the American embassy and other vital spots

McCain: a supporter of the Iraq War, he seems to have take Nixon like position of peace with honor in Iraq. I.E: continue operations until necessary. And a thing to add about McCain on Iraq, you should completely ignore anyone who says that McCain wants to keep us in Iraq for 100 years, they're most likely idiots who are too dumb to do research and get the full quote and probably only listened to the soundbite and the Obama campaign.

*On a side note I should add, the Iraq War is a rather moot point now since it is very likely that combat troops will be withdrawn from Iraq in 2011 regardless of who is President.

Ah yes, getting those who are too young to vote involved in politics.

But seriously, good for them to at least try to get kids interested in politics.

You know what's strange though? The kids have picked the winner of the presidential election in every election since Nickelodeon started doing this.
