New York Comic-Con '09 News & Announcements

X-Men: Legacy's actually pretty good. It's about Xavier basically re-making himself as a human being, so if all the deception and jackassery that's been heaped upon the character annoyed you, Legacy is him paying his penance. Although, granted, it hasn't been quite as good since Rogue and all these other characters entered the picture.

It's just about Xavier getting punked even more. You're exactly right: it's him paying penance, and that's what I don't need to see. The deception and jackassery that's been heaped upon the character annoyed me because I didn't like seeing the character screwed with that way. I'd rather see him be forgiven by some of these "good guys," once they realize that he's a different man now, than watch him get punked over and over and over again.

What kind of world is it where Gambit is the only decent, kind character in the freaking X-books?

Guess you'll just have to read a book that isn't so bleak. Something like the Fantastic Four when Hickman / Eaglesham take over.

Ahhh. What am I thinking? A book based around explorers who are a family is inherently bad. Especially when the book has real heroes in it like Ben Grimm.

What's a guy to do? Guess I'll sign up for one of the lame ass X-Wolverine titles.

Sarcasm Off.

:D

Well considering that Millar hasn't been bleak on the FF, I'd say that despite the author there is just something "inherently" not bleak about the FF.

Oooh, that Reed Richards! Blind machiavellian scientism gets me all hot under the collar.

The Machiavellian aspect was mostly Millar in recent years. For some reason, he had Reed practically do a Dr. Mengele impression in Civil War. But I'd say check out the Waid/Ringo years if you want to see the FF as a family of baldly curious explorers first and foremost. The earlier Waid/Ringo stories especially.

Byrne's Negative Zone run in the 80's was great storytelling as well. They feel like episodes of Star Trek or something. What will the four meet up with this issue?

Great stuff.

I like Agents of Atlas a lot. It'll be cool to see them and the NA mix it up.

I'm also pretty excited for Spider-Woman. Bendis + Maleev = rad creative team.

Meh. With the exception of "Unthinkable", i found Waid's FF run kind of mediocre...

Authoritative Action? Hereafter?

Great stuff!

The Fantastic Four is the World's Greatest Comic Magazine!!!!

Whatta ya say to that, Aristotle?

What's that?

Nothing?

Mmmmmmm.

Hear that?

Nice.

Hmm, I wonder if trade prices are going up too. I hadn't thought of that.

I think they are, depending on the book. The cover price on the Secret Invasion trade is $29.99. Plus, a lot of things come out in premiere edition hardcover first, so the companies can charge $20 for a six-issue trade.

But at least you can buy trades online for less.

yeah Amazon is a godsend for trades SI paperback 19.95 and all the trades that are 15-20 are like 12-15 I never understand how Amazon gets new products that much cheaper than everywhere else. I wish they'd stop releasing HC and then the TPB 1-2 months later but that way they make more money cause a HC cost usually about 5 bucks more than a TPB
