I looked up Norman Osborn on Wikipedia, to see how he appeared in the comics, characterization and all. He's easily become my favorite villain in the spidey mythos...

But what was the deal and motivation behind wanting to control organized crime? Could someine elaborate?

There's not much to elaborate on. When Norman started his career as the Goblin, he wanted a piece of the action in the underworld.

He didn't start off obsessed with destroying Spider-Man. Spidey only became an obsession after he foiled several of Goblin's schemes.

Norman has always been a power-hungry control freak. It all started out with his abusive father, who tended to get drunk and beat his mother and traumatised young Norman. This, needless to say, made him feel very powerless. If you are looking for a deep, psychological reason for his plan to control organised crime, he wanted to make up for his perceived lack of power. For further discussion, see www.spideykicksbutt.com. MadGoblin is the ultimate authority on the Green Goblin. :gg: :bomb:
