Hugh Jackman will be facing off against both a former Bond Villain(Will Yun Lee from Die Another Die) and vet of Lost(Hiroyuki Sanada) Brian tee Is playing the character
Shingen Is making Mariko marry.

All this casting news In one day.Now all that remains Is who Is playing Viper.

Will Yun Lee - Silver Samurai
Hiroyuki Sanada - Shingen
Hal Yamanouchi - Yashida
Tao Okamoto - Mariko
Rila Fukushima - Yukio
Brian Tee - Noburo Mori

So, who are we missing? I really hope Fox doesn't start going mutant crazy like they did in XMO. Keep it small.

EDIT: Going by the character list from 2 years ago, we can expect Viper and Zen. http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=343410

Word was earlier they were beefing up Viper's role since she Is only other non japanese Character In film.I could be wrong but I think they may have merged
the character of Zen In Yashida who Is most likely Shingen's father. Thus Wolverine Is found and brought to japan by Shingen's father.Helps how he meets Mariko.Word has been Wolverine Is only mutant In film. The Silver Samurai has electified armor but Isn't portrayed as a mutant.

Screw the haters I think we are on to something great here. And let's hope they can top wolverine's berkesker moment In kitchen In X2.

The reason they can make this film for 80 Million Is because Wolverine's healing factor and claws are only super powers In film.

Yeah this flicks gonna be awesome. Hope its brutal.

edit: Wait, Silver Samurai is not gonna be a mutant in this? Is that confirmed? Think they will give him a tele ring along with this electro armor then?

Since it's apparently only going to cost $80 million, maybe there is a chance FOX will risk an R rating?

Man I hope so. Seeing Logan go full R rated berserker rage would definitely bring something we havnt seen yet with him.

I doubt they'll give it an R. Too many kids dig Wolverine and they may try and hook up toys.

Yeah Jackman said that as well.

At the same time the comics, games and even The Hulk Vs Wolverine are pretty violent at times. Kids might not be able to get in, but they would def theatre hop and dig the violence. Their Parents probably wouldnt be too happy haha.

did'nt hugh say there is a possibility of 2 cuts one PG 13 and one R

I don't think he said that's a possibility, moreso something he'd like to see. If there is an R cut, it would most likely be an "unrated DVD" version.

I was so hyped about the first batch of casting but with Yun Lee I'll reserve judgement. I haven't seen any of his work and some of the titles he's apparently been in don't exactly inspire confidence (Elektra & King of Fighters).

With that said he might hand in a good performance. Way too early to tell.

Overall I'm excited though.

There was an article about how Australia is paying for some of the production costs. It's a big gamble that some people are questioning.

That's a huge gamble. Marketing two versions of a single film at the same time is logistically difficult. I can imagine an international and an American cut.

I agree!

I was hoping Ken Wanatabe to portray Silver Samurai but I hope Will Yun Lee will do a good job. The only movie I saw from him was Elektra. :oldrazz:

I'm hoping to see a very familiar actress to play Viper. The cast is alright but so far Hugh Jackman is the only actor in the movie that can draw big numbers at the box-office.
Nice to see who will have final showdown with Hugh jackman and who he will be sharing time with.I wonder if they will have tragic ending and adopt Mariko's later death.

Its probably going to be Silver Samurai since he's the main villain.

Wow, very little news for a while and then boom, all at once, some great castings there, especially the guy from Last Samurai and Sunshine, he impressed me in both of those movies so looking forward to his performance at least.

This is shaping up to be quite nice anyway.

YESSSSSS! I'm excited!!! I only read the Wolverine story recently but I think it could make a great film and boy, like everybody else, I hope Wolvie goes full on!

If they're promising the beserker Wolverine, it has to be rated R. I'm looking forward to an R-Rated Wolvie movie.

Will Yun Lee as The Silver Samurai

:wow:

I got my wish!!! After watching his performance in Elektra, Will was the only guy in my mind that I wanted to play Kenuichio Harada.

The cool part is Hugh Jackman even retweeted my suggestion for Yun's casting for the role last July!

So we have a Japanese Oscar winner among the cast.

Japan’s Hiroyuki Sanada is set to play Wolverine foe Shingen in 20th Century Fox’s upcoming The Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman and directed by James Mangold. Lauren Shuler-Donner, Kevin Feige, Jackman and Hutch Parker are producing the X-Men sequel, which begins production next month in Australia and later in Japan. In the Marvel comic universe, Shingen was a Japanese yakuza crime boss who also happened to be the father of Wolverine’s fiancee. Sanada just finished filming The Railway Man opposite Colin Firth and is also in Universal’s 47 Ronin, which will be released next February. He won the Japanese Oscar for The Twilight Samurai, and his credits include Rush Hour 3, City Of Your Final Destination, and The White Countess. He is repped by Lighthouse Entertainment and Axon Entertainment.

Yes, that was one of the announcements from yesterday! :)

I pray this is better than the godawful anime adaptation of this story.

Exactly how I feel but I'm quite happy with the casting news. Things are coming into place nicely and my excitement meter just went up a notch.

Of course its going to be. :woot: The director of this movie makes me think that we will at least get a decent movie or at least better than X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Mark Winterbottom is an Australian racecar driver. Hugh and family are on vacation in Bali before filming and apparently Winterbottom is there also and he ran into Hugh at the gym.

Mark Winterbottom ‏@mwinterbottom
Just trained at the gym in Bali and in walks Hugh jackman!

Mark Winterbottom ‏@mwinterbottom Hugh jackman is seriously ripped ‪#slightmancrush
