Wolverine will bring in bucks

HUGH Jackman is expected to fly into Sydney this weekend to commence shooting the X-Men Origins sequel The Wolverine at Fox Studios within the next fortnight - a shoot that will provide an $80 million boost to the local economy.

The actor's personal assistants have been busy preparing the way ahead of his arrival and are understood to have located a family home in Woollahra, convenient to the Moore Park studios, for the Jackman family during their two to three-month stay.

Also high on Jackman's list of requirements is a private gym facility, the actor having previously spent much of his downtime in Sydney pumping iron at a Bondi gym to preserve his Wolverine physique.

The fillm, featuring a large Japanese cast and directed by James Mangold, was originally to have been shot in Japan but plans to shoot there were scrapped following the devastating 2011 tsunami.

Jessica Biel Offered The Role Of "Viper" In THE WOLVERINE

With filming expected to begin soon, Total Recall actress Jessica Biel has apparently been offered the role of Viper in Fox's upcoming Wolverine movie. More details after the jump.

20th Century Fox is currently casting roles for their next comic book movie The Wolverine, which sees Hugh Jackman donning the mutant's claws once again. Will Yun Lee (who will play the villainous Silver Samurai), Brian Tee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Rila [frick]ushima and Tao Okamoto were said to be cast in the anticipated film. With production expected to begin within the next few weeks, we have more casting news for the James Mangold-directed movie (which is set in Japan).

Twitch has learned that Jessica Biel - previously seen in The A-Team, Blade: Trinity and in next month's Total Recall remake - has been offered the role of Viper in The Wolverine. Viper is described by the site as "a complex character who at one point was a peer of Logan's as well as an enemy. She was a major player in criminal organization Hydra and, in one story arc, blackmailed Logan/Wolverine into marrying her." Last year, it was reported that the character would be "the Caucasian secretary for Japan's Minister of Justice" in the film. There are three characters named Viper in the Marvel universe; it's possible that The Wolverine's Viper is a brand new character created specifically for the movie.

Be sure to check back within the next few weeks for more news surrounding the pic. The Wolverine is set to hit theaters July 26th, 2013.

Awesome casting. Im all for it...for shallow reasons haha. But Biel can kick some ass.

I thought they were hinting at her being Madame Hydra at first.

The viper used will be lover of the Silver Samurai. That was one who blackmailed Wolverine Into marrying her In comics. They are beefing up character from original
script but It was earlier reported she Is spy for Shingen but Is more loyal to her lover The Silver Samurai.

Very Intresting that she may follow up Total recall with this.

Yeah, sounds like they are doing their own thing with the character.

The 'Madame Hydra' aspect of the character is part of Marvel Studios' rights, as we saw HYDRA in Captain America.

Fox is free to use the character under her other name Viper.

As a toxins expert, it seems a good assumption she will be administering some poisons during the story.

As for Jessica Biel, the casting choice isn't too bad. Sometimes she is really good in films, sometimes she isn't so good.

I'm here for this casting. And since Viper really is the only other Caucasian character, I was expecting someone noteworthy. Biel fits that bill.

I wouldn't worry about her acting. Mangold is pretty great with actresses. 2 of which won Oscars from starring in his films.

SHe Is intresting choice for this role. She hasn't played a femme fatale In film. But then again at one time noone knew If she could do action. She gives this film some reconable face.I thought they would go that way with the only other non japanese character In film.We should know shortly If she accepts. And after her we should have the major roles cast.

Deadline confirms. The role is hers.

Finally a female actress that I'm familiar with. Most of the films that I saw from Jessica Biel aren't really good but she's a decent actress and I think she could be a good addition in the movie.

EDIT: I just got chills from the confirmation from Deadline!

Really hope she has a similar look to her comic counterpart. First Class showed us that it's possible.

What time frame did this story technically take place in in the comic-verse? Obviously before present day.

How the heck can Fox use Hydra yet Marvel is so restricted to certain organizations/groups? That must be one heck of a contract.

surprised they did'nt go after beckinsale we know she looks good in leather lol

I dont think they'll be using Hydra, just Viper, we havent heard anything else mentioning Viper (that Im aware of)

And as a fan of Biel, I approve this.

A little too on the nose with Beckinsale. She's basically every brunette action chick ever conceived. I like Biel because she's kinda racially ambiguous with her part Choktaw/German/French/British ass.

They're just using Viper because she's an actual part of the story. Marvel can still use her, though probably named "Lady Hydra" instead.

I approve all of the casting. Its good to have so much native japanese talent in it. Or at least "asian" talent. I just hope that James Mangold will include scenes of speaking japanese. Japanese is an awesome language, it always sounds kinda "royal".

About Biel ... Hm, I am not too sure, I find her incredibly hot but I havent seen enough movies with her to be able to judge wether she can act or not. I ll give her a chance at least.

In general im incredibly hyped for this movie. Yes, Origins was terrible, but Fox really has a good chance to redeem themselves here. It could be the first X- movie that focuses just and only on WOLVIE. No other X-Men, no overload Mutant crapfest like they did in Origins.

Mangold and Fox have to keep it as small and personal as possible. Just focus on Logan and his personal crusade, leading him to Japan, confronting love and a fight for honour. There is no need for other characters from the X-Men film series just to please genereal audience. Dont bring to much Mutants in. You have Wolverine and the Silver Samurai, all along the supporting characters. Thats enough.

Heck, I even think they dont even have to MENTION other aspects from the X-Men universe. They dont even have to mention that Logan is a mutant. Just leave that whole social-political aspect out, just focus on Logan and a small scaled, yet awesome story.

Logan can carry a movie by himself quite well I believe, no need for letting him run into other mutants with fancy abilities. This movie is based on one of the best Wolverine solo-stories ever, it deserves an different feel than just the feel of your average superhero flick. It deserves a tone and a feel like the manga "Blade of the Immortal". That would be near perfect.

And since the budget is only 80 millions I have high hopes for FOX and Mangold acctually keeping it small and character driven. "Logan driven" to be more precise.

At the very least James Mangold is OBVIOUSLY a much better director than Gavin Hood. He is not a studio hack at all. He is someone with good ideas in his mind, who is able to set them through. He is kinda like Fincher in that matter. Also I just WANT TO BELIEVE that FOX has learned from the disaster that Origins was. They just cant go on with that kind of quality Wolverine-wise. Wolverine deserves much better, done right he can be another Dark Knight.

Also I am glad that Hugh is so enthusiastic for this, since this could very well be his last appearance as Wolverine. I just dont see him appearing in a major role in the First Class series, and I am also not sure if he still has a place in a continouation of the Main Series. Hugh really has to go all out this time. He is the longest standing superhero actor ever, that alone owes him my respect. He is the only guy to portray Logan so far. And I honestly cant think of anyone else. Jackmans Wolverine is carved in my brain. Almost as deep as Fords Indiana Jones.

This movie HAS alot of potential if done right. The script is apparently good, they found fitting acotors, they have a skilled director who doesent shy away from a studio arguement, Tom Rothman is gone... Yes, I want to see this movie. I am eager to see what they manage to create in the next couple of months.

Heck, I am even more hyped for this movie than for Iron Man 3. Thats because even though it will most likely be good, with IM3 I already know what to expect. I have seen Iron Man in IM1, IM2 and The Avengers. There are not so many ways to go on with that character to keep continuity. They wont reinvent the wheel with Iron Man 3.

Yet, The Wolverine really COULD be a completely NEW and FRESH take. Heres hoping Magold delievers.

I think they will keep similarities to the outfit , but I have a feeling they wont go the green hair route. It would be cool if they did.

I wouldn't call Hood a studio hack at all, he's a pretty talented director in his own right. The reason his Wolverine movie stunk lies mostly with the fact him and Rothman were reportedly at each other throats about the direction.

The best movie Mangold made was Copland, after that it was mostly mediocre studio fluff (3:10 to Yuma isn't anything special either).

Really? I Thought 3:10 was awesome. Hes a solid Director, his films have all seemed different. Not really a bad thing though. Havnt see all his flicks but I wasnt a huge fan of Knight And Day.

Yeah, he's pretty solid. But to compare him to Fincher is way off.
