Cameras roll on The Wolverine on July 31

By Sandy George

Production begins on The Wolverine in Sydney on July 31 -- that is, on a Tuesday in two weeks -- with Hugh Jackman starring in the title role.

Logan/Wolverine travels to Japan to train with a Samurai warrior in this new episode, the sixth outing for Jackman as this character, although he only had a cameo in X-Men: First Class.

Director James Mangold and his cast and crew are working out of Fox Studio Australia and will travel all around Sydney, including Kurnell, to get the settings they require. A few weeks of filming will also occur in Japan.

Media outlets around the world have run with the news that Jessica Biel and Will Yun Lee have both been cast as villains in the upcoming film – Biel as Viper and Lee as The Silver Samurai – and that Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and Brian Tee are also in the cast..While this may be true, IF Magazine was told today that no cast contracts have been signed.

It was confirmed, however, that the cinematographer is Amir Mokri, who moved to the US from Iran when he was in his early 20s and has most recently worked with Zack Snyder on Man of Steel and Michael Bay on Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

The producers are Lauren Shuler Donner, Hutch Parker, Scott Franklin, Jackman and John Palermo, Jackman's business partner at the now defunct Seed Productions. US line producer Joseph Caracciolo is on executive producer duties and Anne Bruning is unit production manager.

IF Magazine has it on good authority that Francois Audouy is the production designer, Ellen Mirojnick is costume designer, Nick Copping is production co-ordinator, and Jen Lamphee is make-up and hair supervisor, but confirmation was not forthcoming.

Hugh Jackman has only been back in Sydney for a few days, and photos of him walking through the airport and swimming at Bondi Beach have already been published. If Biel is in the film, expect some media tracking of Justin Timberlake too, as the pair are engaged to be married.

Most recently Jackman played Jean Valjean in Tom Hooper’s big-screen adaptation of Les Misérables.

The Wolverine is a direct sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which was directed by Gavin Hood. Darren Aronofsky was originally attached to direct the follow-up but was replaced by Mangold, who is best known for Walk The Line, the biopic about country and western legend Johnny Cash.

There is something that bothers me quite a bit. Maybe one of you can enlighten me.

Both "Man of Steel" and "Iron Man 3" have major appearances at Comic Con right now. They both come out next summer ! "The Wolverine" also comes out next summer.

Here is my gripe: While MoS already wrapped shooting and showed plenty of footage at Comic Con and Iron Man 3 beeing a good step INTO shooting, probably also having some footage at Comic Con...

...The Wolverine hasent even started filming yet ! Not a frame has been shot yet. FOX and Mangold really have to perform an uber-fast turnarround to get The Wolverine ready for July 2013. I have a fear that its gonna be rushed.

Do you even think they re gonna make it in time??

Well Man of Steel was supposed to be released this year but they moved the release date to next year. FOX also waited for Hugh Jackman to finish Les Miserables. They would have probably film this movie earlier and the cast/crew of The Wolverine would have visited Comic-Con (to show some footage) if Hugh Jackman didn't have the role in Les Miserables.

Plus these days, big movies like this one usually takes 4 months to film unlike before. If FOX managed to release X-Men: First Class and X3 on time, they can do the same thing with The Wolverine.

The Wolverine is opening two weeks after Comic-Con next year, so you can expect a big push then. Right now there's nothing to show.

Hopefully a Wondercon panel in March too. Fox had a decent Prometheus Panel this year with Charlize, Fassbender and Ridley Scott.

Great casting, Biel will look good in green.

Jessica has green eyes, so that ought to be a very interesting look.

I couldn't find any pics of her wearing green.

I had a look round online at fan response to the casting and it was surprisingly mixed, and some of it very negative.

I didn't understand one comment I read that said "Testosterone is not a toy, Jessica." What's that supposed to mean? She doesn't look like a bodybuilder.

Two of them are/were men, so I think we know which one Biel is up for... Unless of course, the above comment is true and she is hitting the roids lol

I wish the reviews were mixed. They were mostly very negative. She doesn't look like a bodybuilder, but she was very muscular at one point. Not so much now.

Hollywood and Hugh Jackman - at Kurnell?
BY SANDRA SIAGIAN

THE star himself might not be on the scene, but one of the sets for Hugh Jackman's next Wolverine flick is already under construction at Kurnell.

Neighbouring residents were notified by the production company, 20th Century Fox, that Bonna Point Reserve would be temporarily occupied to make way for a World War II prisoner of war camp set (pictured under construction).Scenes for the film will be shot in two days between Monday, July 30 and Thursday, August 2.

Kurnell resident Vanessa Lee said it was exciting to see a movie set in the area.

"I might wander out here and have a picnic on the beach when they start filming," she said."The kids think it's exciting and I think it's a great way to promote Kurnell and the shire."

There's a small photo attached to the article.

Collider says that talks with Jessica Biel have broken down:

http://collider.com/jessica-biel-the-wolverine/181737/

Hugh Jackman phoned into a friend's radio show either today/yesterday. He didn't respond to a comment about Jessica Biel. His friend was going to join him for lunch on the set "tomorrow".

We're expecting Jackman to be busy promoting "Les Miserables" in early December, which only allows four months for filming "The Wolverine", unless he takes a break from filming and returns later. I know actors don't always do the promotion but this one is a big deal.

Well at least some can stop complaning about Jessica Biel's casting.

They may work on scenes that don't require Hugh Jackman when he promates
Les Miserables In December.

Now that Biel is out, maybe we can get a more respectable actress?

I think its a shame Biel is out, I like her as an actress and she is smoking hot in all honesty, shame. She hasnt done anything deep acting wise but I doubt this role would require that.

Hope to God Beckinsale doesn't replace her.

You know that's what they're going for. She's like the go-to for this kind of ****. I like her, but it's like, "another action chick flick...fantastic."

Kate Beckinsale only does action films when they are underworld sequels or directed by her husband.

Kate Beckinsale only does movies directed or produced by her flop husband.

It's like Milla Jovovich and Paul Anderson in reverse.

Kate Beckinsale only does movies directed or produced by her flop husband.

Yeah that Is true although she occassionly does non action and non genre
films not made by husband. And since he's not Involved I don't see her
playing Viper.
