Next Big Cosmic Event:The Thanos Imperative

I like the mask more than anything else. I didn't even think of Thanos having a face without those upturned golden eyebrow thingamajigs. That was Thanos' face to me. Seeing him without them just seems wrong.

I always thought the old costume felt iconic for the years he had it. But his Annihilation garb seemed more fitting for the evolution of the character. Going back a step, while not horrible, is unnecessary.

I wonder how bad a Loeb space comic could be. You know, in comparison to his other current Marvel work. How about in comparison to his Ultimate Marvel work?

Nah I mean going maskless was okay for the last bunch of years because Thanos wasn't really being THANOS, he was kind of like, Thanos in retirement. You know just sort of puttering around in his old-man socks and messing around with his various projects, destroying and recreating the universe, turning Galactus into a weapon, you know, hobbyist kind of stuff. I gather this event is Thanos getting back to the serious ****ing business of being THANOS so the badass golden eyebrows is just his way of saying here I am putting my suit back on and stepping back into the office.

Actually you know what would own, would be Thanos in an actual three-piece suit. :awesome:

I don't even care what the reason is, pretty much any excuse would do.

I just hope we see Nova, Drax and Peter getting out of this fiasco better than they were before.

Also, an X-Factor fan-friend of mine made this comparison: GoTG= Cosmic X-Factor and Madrox=Star-Lord?

I like Peter David's X-Factor alot but I think GoTG got alot of great charm and a talking Racoon to boot. I think he reached the conclusion after I lent him GoTG War of Kings Vol.2 where Starhawk had this whole Layla Miller thing going. I'd pay to see an X-Factor/Guardians team-up.

I can see the comparison. Both are (mostly) good at their jobs but treated like s*** by their respective communities (mutants for X-Factor, all the alien races for the Guardians). Both are relatively low-power but have a lot of heart. Both have a charismatic screw-up for a leader. The point where it starts to fall apart for me is in their relationships with the "leading" superheroes in their community: Cyclops thinks Madrox is crafty but doesn't respect him much, whereas Nova thinks the world of Star-Lord.

That being said...doesn't David write Babylon 5 or something? He's like, DESTINED to write cosmic like GoTG and with a crew like the Guardians, I'm sure Peter David could cook up a hell of a storm.

Yeah, I like how Nova's become the New Warrior that truly "made it". Even Justice concedes that Richie's gotten further than any of the other Warriors (with or without Avengers credentials). That being said, Star-Lord has yet to sleep with any of the girls...or guys in the Guardians. In some way I think that speaks volumes of Quill's character.

He and Mantis would be adorable together. That's a good idea.

Personally, I'm just waiting for Gamora to meet up with Rich--and Namorita--again. ;)

JMS created Babylon 5, actually. But Peter David does write a lot of sci fi novels.

Huh. JMS and Sci-Fi don't really match in my head. But yeah I think David would rock in Marvel Cosmic.

Gamora's playing the cosmic bimbo bit a little too obviously. I think she was starting to feel for Adam alot before he went all Magus and...well...killed half the team. Rich is playing it all Kirk and such but hey, to my knowledge, his love interests can be counted on one hand so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt before he get the man-****e label.

Assuming that DnA are taking a much deserved break from their writing duties, I hope Marvel could try letting Gage back into the cosmic fold though I do hope to see him strut his stuff in Avengers Academy. Curiously, I wonder if Marvel does us a biggie and signs Marz back for some old cosmic action.

If he wasn't stuck with DC right now, I'd love Giffin to come back and write some more cosmic stuff.

I read it as two of the higher-level team members being happy to see each other again. I mean, even before they gained a handful of new members and officially split into two teams for War of Kings, the Guardians basically consisted of a field team led by Star-Lord and a "home" team that Mantis seemed to take charge of.

Marvel really should have done more to secure Giffen.

DnA have done well..but nothing has come close to Annhilation 1 and the feel of those comics.

I thought some of the best writing came from the recent War of Kings side arc in Nova. Those issues really came off well in that book, leading in from the end of vol. 4, Nova Corps.

You mean the Sphinx arc? That bored me. I want to see more of the Nova Corps, not alternate reality stuff with some dusty old villain.

The Sphinx arc followed War of Kings. I'm talking about Richard getting depowered towards the of the arc, I believe issues 19 - 22.

Oh, right, the whole thing with Tarcel and Egomind getting almost the entire new Nova Corps killed. Yeah, that was great stuff.

I liked the SPHINX arc of NOVA. The Sphinx is his #1 enemy, and now was about time Abnett & Lanning gave him a fresh coat of paint to go up against Nova again. I suppose the story could have been written to include more of the Corps members and not have it just be, basically, Nova & Darkhawk reliving the CONTEST OF CHAMPIONS LITE, but I still enjoyed the story. It pit Nova against a large threat, and it stuck a thumb in Millar's eye by reviving Namorita. At least for now.

I still wonder who the Fault's "champion of Life" seems to be. Is it Magus? Maelstrom serves Oblivion, and Thanos was brought back to replace Martyr as the "avatar of death" working for Oblivion, although neither he or the Guardians, or anyone, will be happy with Thanos back. I doubt it is Dark Quasar. So, who is it?

The only awkward bit is I'll read the THANOS IMPERATIVE stuff, and then SECRET AVENGERS and go, "Oh, there's no time for Richard to be punching robots on Mars", but I suppose it'll be one of those suspension of belief moments. Maybe it is a compliment that Nova will start to appear in two books at once even when neither appearance jives with the other, like many other higher up characters. Of course, it could also be because...well, even Rage was an Avenger once, and it was about time for Nova, even if he is awfully busy.

I liked Thanos' new designs. I thought his old orange and blue outfit looked awfully gaudy. I got tired of seeing space characters who dress worse than clowns. I'm all for modest updates to designs. Lord knows Kang has needed one forever.

Where did you hear about a Champion of Life Dread? I didn't see that anywhere in any of the cosmic books. Is that octopus like thing the guy from the Marvel vs. Capcom game Golam Kath or whatever his name was? Dude seemed to only appear in that game as far as I know but I'm probably wrong.
