The Dark Knight Nolan's Gotham and atmosphere

Long live the powers of the multi-verse!

maybe this isnt a batman film.

maybe its an idea....and ideas are bulletproof...

It's similar to the situation of the original Star Wars trilogy - Empire was significantly different from A New Hope, and in turn, Jedi was different than Empire. They're all telling the same story, but each need to stand on their own, merit-wise and stylistically.

The "Nolan Trilogy" will be no different. They're all telling the same story: the origin, rise, and (presumably) long-term effects of Batman's career, not to mention his first interactions with some memorable rogues (i.e., Joker and Two-Face.) This is assuming, of course, that Joker's story and Two-Face's story intertwine enough in TDK and are resolved in the third film (with more emphasis on Two-Face, perhaps.) It's almost like Nolan is taking all the memorable stories of the comics (an assortment of Batman origin tales, Joker's first appearance, the Long Halloween, etc.) and making them into one big "Batman summary" for film.

But each film needs to stand on its own to be successful, and that's what's happening. Hence the different atmosphere.

As long as the spirit of Batman remains intact, they can change the color scheme and set design all they want.

Given that Nolan and Co. seem to know what they're doing it's safe to say that they wouldn't be dumb and make too drastic of a change to the overall look of the world they've established.

It's only when the inhabitants of that world begin to change that I would start to become concerned.

But I wouldn't look too much into it. After the previous franchise they're gonna be smart about this and go about it the right, or at least sensible/logical, way.

Hey! I said close to the same thing, just didn't come off as edumacated as Anita.
:oldrazz:

I dunno if I would call it epic, since "epic" alludes to a story traveling over many, many locations and involving many characters. Like, LOTR is epic. For the most part, Batman exists only in Gotham. (I am curious about that shot of Bruce in Hong Kong putting the cowl on..) But the spaces are definitely bigger in TDK.

Batman goes to Mordor. That's what Jett told me.

He has to throw in his utility belt! Its wearer controls all!

But of course the Bat has superior mental willpower so he hasn't been corrupted yet. :ninja:

hehehe.

I'm looking forward to TDK, but I'd pay good money to see your version.

I made this thread yesterday but the guides deleted it for some reason. But I think it need its own thread. But anyways I sensed a complete different atmosphere in the trailer and prolouge then in BB. Its hard to explain but it just didnt feel like batman. Like when I first saw the prolouge, I wouldnt have even guessed it was batman if I didnt know about joker and his goons. I dont know if thats a good thing or not but... idk, it just dosent feel like its on the same theme as BB, if that makes any sense. I just kinda want it to feel like BB! :csad: But the prolouge was sick! I have to admit!!! My heart was pounding so fast when it started
It's a psychological thing/mise en scene. Half of it is what you are used to seeing and the half of it is what you are seeing. You have become so attuned to the type of cinematography and mise en scene used in Batman Begins. The trailer delivers a different type of cinematography as well as delivering a completely different mise en scene. You are seeing different characters, different locations and these are things that generate the mood of a film.

Color grading is also a powerful tool. This can influence the entire atmosphere of a film and you wouldn't even know it. If Batman Begins was given a blue tint as opposed to a brown tint, then it wouldn't quite feel the same. Couple that with the new characters and locations and we have a completely different feel. It's all in your mind and what you have come to get used to in Batman Begins.

Also, in the prologue; just listen to the music. The background music influences the ENTIRE MOOD OF THE SCENE. It's that simple. No, it didn't feel like Batman Begins, but that's the art of cinema -- that's what mise en scene can do.

Meh don't worry, they are just (for some reason) showing loads of Joker. Prologue (no batman) The teasers - trailers, posters (again more Joker).
When it comes to the movie they wil be plenty of Batman!! To me it feels a lot like Begins and just the next chapter in the story.

At the moment we are getting a lot of this = :hoboj:
Nearer the release of the movie will wil get a lot of this = :brucebat:

and then when the movie comes out we'll be getting a lot of this = :shock

I agree. I'm not gonna start worrying until I read that Nolan wants to tell the story of Egghead or Marsha Queen of Diamonds for BB3.

THe prologue felt indeed more like an Die Hard-ish action movie. Most not be a bad thing.

It won't be like that for the rest of the movie. It's just a prelude, to show the Joker and his antics. The goons probably provide the Die Hard-ish feeling.
