Odd parts about Civil War...

I think the mian point is to register people who can be used as a weapon, so that they receive the training required for them to know how to not kill people.

Hell, if the MU were the real world, I'd be pro, simply because to me it makes sense to want to have people who (in some cases) are more powerful than a nuke be trained rather than have them accidentially kill a load of kids. I think i'd also be pro because IF people were killed by the mis-actions of a powered person, the SHRA makes them accountable for what they've done.

All of that sounds good in theory...but the one piece that makes it all fall apart is the fact that everyone has to register and upon registering becomes a civil servant that has to follow the orders of the President. As it stands now, you don't get to register and go back to teaching school. You don't get to register and go back to being an artist. You register and you become a soldier.

And considering the mutant explosion under Morrisson (which, therefore, could easily happen again) you're forcing the majority of your population into life long military service. That's wrong. Period.

^apparently the potential for mutants was taken away from many people. the only mutants that can repopulate mutantkind is the 198, so we shouldnt see a mass of mutants anytime soon.

This is what I'm hating about marvel right now. It's all assumptions/reader driven.

Ok, regardless of SHIELDs actions. WHY an international body is acting to enforce a nations law should be explained. Some people on this board have come up with very many reasonable explainations.

Where did you see that? I'm guessing it was proberbly in a Q&A rather than any x-book? Same thing

BUT THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE TO.

Marvel should be thinking about this and explaining it. Not assuming that everyones just gonna miss it/fill in the gaps themselves. It's lazy. And it's what Marvels doing alot recently: changing characters/ideas to fit a story and assuming people wont care, rather than writing the story for a character.

Also:

What does the act mean?

Must they be on a public register? Or is a "secret" goverment list?

Is the ID infomation only held in the US, or does Shield have access?

What about "inactives"? Do they have to register/train, or can they register/live out life without powers etc?

It's not explained after 4 issues and multiple tie ins, and it reeks of shoddy editorial work.

1. On what planet in what universe does BARON ZEMO get a government job? He's a gawd damned Nazi! If you ranked the most evil people in Marvel comics you would come up with a list that goes Apocalypse, the Red Skull, and Baron Zemo. Honestly, I half expect to see Apocalypse and the Horsemen show up with government authorization and it can't get any more crazy.

9. They release the Green Goblin and every supervillain ever in the Marvel universe to be in the New Thunderbolts. Doctor Octopus, a man again, CLINICALLY INSANE and has tried to BLOW UP the world (Sinister Sex) in the government posse.

Whose next? Hydra for SHIELD recruitment.

Well, the government did recruit The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (renamed Freedom Force) and pardon them back in the day... so there is a history of dumb supervillain/government liasons.

Well if the mutant x-gene occured naturally as a part of the evolution then it would only seem logical to assume mutants will continue to be born. Unless of course, Scarlet Witch used her reality altering power to halt evolution all together.

Not to mention this is the new hip cool MU Government, where betrayal and down right sneakyness go hand in hand with realistic and gritty

The exact phrasing was that the X-Gene was removed from mutants. Considering that the X-Gene is a recessive gene (why two mutants can have a non-mutant child) and other factors create mutant children (Franklin Richards seems to have always been named as an X-Gene mutant though Reed and Sue are not) it is not out of the realm of possiblity for them to come back.

Especially considering Marvel rescinded damn quickly on that 198 idea (saying that's only the number registered quickly after M-Day and within the walls of the Institute) and Quicksilver can give mutants their powers back (plus, I think the tree guy from District X's fruit could possibly also return their powers).

So yeah, the mutants will be back. They always are.
