I love The Office.
I'm a fan of Gervais in general.
That said, The Office (US) is easily one of the best written series still airing today. If you're watching it and comparing it to the original, then you're a fool. The US version has become it's own show, with stories and characters the original didn't. (Creed Bratton = Amazing.)
The concept is the only thing that really has any similarity to the original. (The Boss thinks everyone loves him and he's a funny guy. The receptionist and one of the sales team love each other.) I think the reason you think it's stupid is because it's a lot further removed from reality than the original. David Brent was real, Michael Scott isn't. But that doesn't stop the show being one of the most laugh out loud experiences I've ever had the pleasure of watching.
Oh yeah, that breast slicing was insane.
