I have always hoped that the main games would incorporate more elements from the RPG's. Specifically shops, towns, collecting, dungeon crawling and other things like that. Or the party dynamic (though more in a Kingdom Hearts action RPG fashion).

Unsurprisingly, Mario 64 remains my favorite 3D Mario.
 
If they are able to keep everything on schedule, I think they can see improved hardware sales, but overall, I doubt there's a chance they can really win 2015 as a whole in the sales department. I expect it'll be a light coast until the end with occasional spikes: Gamecube, part II.
Sales spike with a major Nintendo release but never hold. That is basically the pattern.

If there was ever any doubt that Grezzo are developing the Nintendo 3DS remake of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, the Australian Classification board just confirmed that they are indeed involved.

A rating for the game lists Grezzo Co., Ltd. as the author of the 3DS release, with Nintendo listed as publisher. You may recall that Grezzo—founded by Koichi Ishii, formerly of Square Enix—also developed Ocarina of Time 3D and The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition for DSiWare.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D will be released this Spring. Producer Eiji Aonuma previously stated that the game has been in development since 2011.

In an interview with iJustine (thanks, Gamespot), Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto shared a few tidbits on how the world for The Legend of Zelda on Wii U is being designed.

“With Zelda games, what we’ve always done is, we’ve always tried to make them a game where you enter this big world of Hyrule, and there’s a lot to explore and discover; but because of the hardware limitations, what we always had to do was segment off each area and piece those segments together in a way that made them feel like a big world,” Miyamoto said, while discussing the size of the world in the new game.

He continued, “But now with the hardware capabilities of Wii U, what we did was, we first started by saying, ‘well, let’s see what we can do if we take an entire world the size of the world from Twilight Princess and just try to make that as one area on the game.’”

It should be noted that the Zelda game for Wii U is still in development, so the final game may not necessarily feature a single area the size of the entire Twilight Princess map. A lot could change over the next few months. That said, it is safe to assume that the game will feature a large world, especially in light of Miyamoto’s next quote.

“There may even be times where you forget what your goal is because you’re doing other things on the side,” Miyamoto said. “There may be times when you go into one big long dungeon, or there may be times when you’re headed to a dungeon and you’re doing other things along the side.”

“But what we’re trying to do is design it in a way that you don’t necessarily have to sit down and play it for a super long time, but kind of more matched to today’s lifestyle, where you can think for a little bit and say, ‘oh, I just want to play for a little bit today and do this one thing,’ and get that done and take a break.”

That is what the original Zelda was about, just playing some until you hit that dungeon, then the next day after school use that battery backup to continue.
 
I'm really not a huge fan of open world design, so I'm curious to see how much I enjoy this. Honestly, OOT is about as "open" as I really care for. The original Zelda is kind of meh to me really. Just not my thing. I'll get this still definitely, but I'm not sure if this will be my cup of tea or not with how this is being talked about.

Picked up Hyrule Warriors. Fun game so far.

I don't like GTA that much. Mainly because it's open world. Why do you assume this? Avy? I honestly just thought it was funny when I saw it.

I'm not a fan of certain games of open world. Especially Silent Hill Downpour :barf:
 
The thing I love about GTA is the sheer amount of stuff you can do, and the vastness. You can just fly for ten minutes in any direction in a jet. Red Dead Redemption did it fairly well also.

I'm still hoping we'll get an open world Mario some day.

I do hope Nintendo takes some notes from those two, in terms of having stuff going on in the world. Random people needing your help, enemy ambushes, etc.
 
I love open world, and enjoyed games like GTA and RDR. I hope this new game of Zelda will be an open world as well.
 
I generally get bored with open world stuff. People talk about how much stuff there is to do, but I often find it's not particularly refined and I often just get tired of it. I'd rather have a focused and refined experience over one that's just a dull mishmash of experiences.

I have to agree. I do like open world to an extent, but GTAV I eventually got bored of all the little side crap there is to do. Only open world game I never really got sick of was Skyrim. I felt that was open world done right.

so when do you think we'll get our first official look at Zelda herself?

What about he towns in Ocarina of Time for he 3DS?
 
Are they any different from the original OOT? I don't remember those being particularly populated.
 
Oh they look great, but there really isn't a whole lot to do in them. You have a few side quests in Castle Town (and later, Kakariko), but that's about it. To be fair, I guess that was kind of intentional, since Ganondorf's reign leaves all the areas devastated. But even as a kid, there isn't too much to do.

Clock Town is the one that really felt alive to me. NPC's actually had schedules, and stuff happened even if you just stood around. I also liked the little changes, like it raining on one day, the changing stocks in stores, etc.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D will get a limited edition bundle that comes with a Skull Kid figurine.


The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D will get a limited edition bundle that comes with a Skull Kid figurine in North America, Nintendo said this morning.

The bundle will be available at select retailers for $49.99, and will be release on the same day as the standard edition of the game, although Nintendo have not said just what this date will be.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D is scheduled for release this Spring in the U.S. and Europe. Europe is getting a different special edition release.

Speaking with the Reno Gazette-Journal back in September, Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma talked about what elements of Hyrule Warriors he would like to adopt for The Legend of Zelda on Wii U. (Thanks, GoNintendo)

Hyrule Warriors is a hack-and-slash game developed by Koei Tecmo’s OmegaForce studio, which has worked on games such as Dynasty Warriors and One Piece: Pirate Warriors. Unlike most Zeldas, it’s more focused on combating enemy troops in large fields rather than traipsing into dungeons and solving puzzles. Aonuma says that it’s one of the combat aspects he’d like to lift from—specifically the boss fights.

“One aspect of Hyrule Warriors that really left a big impression on me was how the big bosses can actually move across the map while you’re fighting them,” Aonuma said. “For example, you can have a boss start by heading toward your stronghold and you’ll attack and then follow them.”

“That’s something you don’t usually see in a Zelda game because bosses are usually in enclosed spaces so that kind of gameplay feels fresh to me. It also works really well in an expansive world, which is what we’re planning to do for the next Zelda game. It’s going to be a really open world so that’s the kind of gameplay we’d really like to incorporate.”

Nintendo have already teased the prospect of bosses being able to chase you around the map once before. In the reveal trailer for the new Zelda, they showed a six-legged enemy chasing Link through a field and cornering him. At the time, Nintendo claimed that trailer consisted of actual gameplay, and this would seem to confirm it.
