Yeah, because the Nationals and Phillies have such a fierce rivalry

There's a general rivalry between all of the teams in cities on the I-95 corridor in all sports. Philadelphia generally loathes anything NY or DC simply because they're wedged in between them, arguably the two most important cities in the country. Inferiority complex? Somewhat. Also a lot of family rivalries too.

They don't have to be fierce rivals at all. The fact of the matter is that he left their team for more money. He could play for the Yankees, Mets or any other team in the league. The point is that he's the competition now. They have every right to boo him.

The Royals are calling up one of their biggest prospects, 1B Eric Hosmer. And he's trending number 5 on Twitter. Mind you, that's without a single Major League at-bat yet.

as far as Im concerned....Ethiers hit streak is over....he missed a game, go back to 1, ****er

its going to be tough to beat DiMaggios record

I would be a great story and feat if he broke that record, but it won't happen.

Here's what Ethiers up against....

Good old Moises Alou. :D

Hey you guys might want to tune to the Jays/Tigers game. There's uh...something happening :avoidingjinx:

Verlander with the No No!, but shouldve had the Perfecto had the ump not decided to squeeze him on a pitch that was a borderline strike.

Congrats to Verlander on his 2nd no-hitter.

DiMaggio had games where he was taken out immediately after getting a hit during his streak.

Personally, I think it's the most overrated record in sports (not just MLB) history. The safest record in baseball is Walter Johnson's 110 shutouts.

It looked like he just missed on that pitch to Arencibia. That kid had one hell of an at bat you have to admit. Upon looking further, Avila's quick glove movement from the middle of the plate to the outside may have helped in the umps call.

Or Johnny Vander Meer's two consecutive no-hitters

Nah, that's incredibly difficult but still possible. No one will even get 110 complete games anymore let alone shutouts. I think we all can agree on Halladay being the CG/SHO king today. He led the majors the past 2 years with 4. He would have to do that for 28 years to have 110. No player born in the 20th century has more than Spahn with 63. Nolan Ryan is 2 behind him and he played 6 years more than Spahn.

Easily the safest record in any sport is Ripken's consecutive start record.

all 3 are pretty secure IMO....but Id put Ripkens on top, followed by the 110, then DiMaggios hit streak

0 for 2 so far, he's up to bat now...

Edit, 0 for 3 now.

Ripken's record can be broken if medicine continues to advance. 110 shutouts is never happening again on this planet.

Well I wouldn't say he sucks, 30 in a row is pretty damn good.

Mets won, yay.

No one will ever touch Cy Young's IP record either. 7,356 innings pitched. Greg Maddux had the most in recent memory and he barely cracked 5,000.

Most pitching records that existed back then are safe. That element of the game has just changed too much.

Meltdown time, he'll either refuse to vacate his locker, quit, or choke a woman.
