Nice

Davey Johnson named Nationals manager

....as much as I like Davey, there are plenty of young and capable bench coaches and others actively in MLB that should have gotten that chance

That makes Terry Collins the 2nd youngest manager in the NL East.

Dat Verlander

Dem Tigers

First place! (For now)

And I hope that whenever Leyland decides to pack away the Marlboros, the Tigers do whatever they can to get Gibby back home.

What an awesome gem MadBum threw yesterday for the G-Men striking out 11 in the win.

Rangers interested in Mets’ Beltran and Rodriguez
Last updated: 06/27/11 at 10:43 PST by Allan Teruel

According to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated, the Texas Rangers are interested in New York Mets' outfielder Carlos Beltran and closer Francisco Rodriguez.

Either player won't come cheap for the Rangers. Beltran is owed about half of the remainder of his $18.5 million contract for 2011. While the Mets may be willing to eat most of that they would expect a large bounty of prospects in return.

Rodriguez reportedly was open to being a setup man in the right situation (despite having a $17.5 million 2012 vesting option if he finishes 55 games), but those reports were later debunked by journalists close to the pitcher. It wouldn't be surprising if he has a change of heart should a team offer him a contract extension.

Do it Mets...Just rebuild with some youth infusion. Texas can part with a regular day player somewhere too. Maybe Mitch Moreland

Moreland and Beltran are practically the same player at this point. Except one is ten years younger and makes about 50 times less.

And didn't he get LIT UP last time out against the Twinkies?

They all have ups & downs, of course with the run support the Giants offense provides it's quite a challenge. He has more potential & i'll put my money on him.

What Texas needs is pitching, not more hitting, in my opinion.

They could use both. Their hitting is certainly down from a year ago. Hamiltion, Cruz, and Napoli are missing all kinds of time and they're not hitting like they did when they are playing. Kinsler has been pretty awful. Beltre isn't replacing Vlad's numbers. The only bright spots for them hitting wise have been Moreland and Young.

The rotation has actually been strong but the bullpen isn't performing the way it did a year ago.

so....Dodgers declare bankruptcy....might we be hearing from Mark Cuban sooner than later?

Basically, everything you said would happen eventually last year is happening this year,

I'd put pitching as a priority first, look back at what Cliff Lee did for them last year. I suspect with the right pitcher coming along, they'll kick it into high gear.

The difference being that such a pitcher probably isn't available this year. There aren't really any legitimate aces to be shopped right now. The best of the bunch might be Francisco Liriano and he's way too much of a question mark to be a true game changer.

They could use an upgrade in the outfield. David Murphy and Julio Borbon have been basically useless while Hamilton and Cruz can't stay healthy and effective.

Maybe they can pry Fausto Carmona away from the Indians for the right price & i've been hearing rumors about the Giants possibly shopping Sanchez or Zito for the right deal. I'd also look into Felix Hernandez if the Mariners start to fade.
