Unless the Yankees get him in which case he will be a legit ace, right? :whatever:

um i've already said he is scared to come to the yankees and will fail here.

I dont think he will be a success in a key spot.

Just another Kevin Brown, Hideki Irabu, jose Contreras and most recently Jose Vazquez.

Im sure the Mets have no problem going after him...since they have an ace who is breaking into pieces and a cast of mediocrity.

Why do you always bring up the Mets? Unless you're trying to make a petty jab.

Duh, because you brought up the Yankees...Look at your post. I never mentioned the Yankees and Grienke and you go ahead and say unless he is on the Yanks. Seems that was a petty jab there

:whatever: Its a two way street dude.

My point had nothing to do with the Yankees. It was about how a lot of fans will think a lot more highly of a player if he joins their team. My jab was at homerism, not the Yankees. I would have said the same to Excel, Kingfish, ninja, Riddler, etc. The team was completely irrelevant.

That was kind of a reach there Spidey. Your jabs are usually a lot better than that.

Anyway, under no circumstances would I want the Angels to trade for Greinke. On the contrary, I emphatically want the Rangers to do so. He's a quality pitcher, but he's treated like an ace when he's only had one great year and a couple of good ones.

That's pretty contradictory to all the reports of what happened that night. Moreno sounds like he's saving a bit of face on the Crawford pursuit.

Anyway, I really don't mind that they didn't sign Teixeira or Crawford. Tex was replaced internally for a fraction of the cost and Carl got an absolutely ridiculous deal that will probably be regretted before it is over.

Anyone surprised that Adrian Beltre and Rafael Soriano have not been signed yet? And what's up with the Soriano market?

Im thinking there might be some collusion to finally get rid of Scott Boras

I think its safe to say that Tampa's run of playoff appearances is at an end. They basically have to repair their entire bullpen and replace Jason Bartlett (with Reid Brignac), Carlos Pena and Carl Crawford. They signed Joel Peralta from Washington and added some bullpen help in the Barlett trade. And they also are considering trading Matt Garza and probably James Shields. It's going to be a long 2011 season for Evan Longoria, David Price, BJ Upton and Ben Zobrist.

The only significant loss is Crawford. Pena has been declining and Bartlett isn't good. Seriously, when did Bartlett become this great player? He's had ONE season with an OPS+ above 100, most seasons it's below 90. Reid Brignac is basically the same as Bartlett but has potential to improve and is more affordable.

They haven't traded Garza or Shields. If they do, a) they will be getting other players in return and b) Shields has regressed since 2008. Losing him isn't a major blow.

Red Sox Still Looking At Lefty Relievers
By Mike Axisa [December 18 at 5:46pm CST]

The Red Sox have been one of, if not the most active team this offseason, and over the last week they've upgraded their bullpen by adding Bobby Jenks and Dan Wheeler. ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes says (via Twitter) that the team is still looking at lefty relievers, and one name that could be in play is Dennys Reyes.

Reyes had a one-year contract worth $1.1MM in place with the Phillies earlier this month, but yesterday we learned that the two sides "hit a snag" and the deal fell apart with no reason given. The free agent market still offers plenty of other options, including Brian Fuentes (who the Sox have interest in), Joe Beimel, Will Ohman, Arthur Rhodes, and J.C. Romero. Fuentes, however, is looking for a deal in line with the three-year pact Scott Downs received.

A twit rumor

@BerniesCrew
Jim Breen
Source tells me #Brewers have traded SS Alcides Escobar, CF Lorenzo Cain, and RHP Jeremy Jeffress for RHP Zack Greinke, SS Betancourt + $2M.

Can we wait until someone legitimate posts it somewhere other than Twitter before we bother with those kind of rumors?

Anyway, Bartlett and Pena don't hurt the Rays. What does hurt them is losing basically their entire bullpen. They could also wind up with 8 of the first 64 picks in the draft next year, so their already in position to rebuild quickly.

There we go. Much better than going off some Twitter account.

With Texas missing out on Lee and Greinke, plus Tampa now saying that they're not looking to move a starter, I'm now more concerned with Oakland than Texas in 2011.

Royals have the best farm system in the majors though. That division is pretty winnable.
