No one ever drafts him in our fantasy league. He always goes to whoever isn't there at the draft.

I think tonie actually tried to trade him to me two years in a row.

Chris Capuano signs with Mets.

Confirmed for 2011 NL Cy Young

hearin alot of buzz around here about Beltre

Looks like it's official now. The Rangers are paying 90 million dollars to improve their third base defense. That's...cool I guess.

The Angels not doing anything this off-season is pretty surprising. Their front office is catching up to the Mets. At least Spidey, Ninja, BL, and I can all enjoy losing seasons together.

Joe Saunders pitching in AZ is going to give me ulcers

6 years for Beltre? WOW......

This supports my theory that the best way to make money is to take advantage of stupid people.

It's actually really hilarious since it addresses absolutely NONE of the Ranger's real weaknesses (I mean, unless you want to consider Third Base defense a critical area of improvement). Their pitching is still AT BEST a crapshoot and his offense is a complete wash with Vlad out of the picture.

Getting dumb franchises to give elite contracts to non-elite players. The Scott Boras specialty.

I for one dont mind it I suppose...its a bigger contract but I was sick of seeing Young be mediocre at 3rd...
Hard to judge the moves just yet...last time you judged the Rangers they made you look silly

Don't know how many times it needs to be said but the Rangers did exactly what I said they would the remainder of last season. If there's anything to criticize about my predictions, it would be the way I judged my own team, not yours.

It's pretty simple really. Their defense at third will be phenomenally better. That's not really at issue. However, compared to last year, it likely makes their offense worse. Remember, in the lineup, he's not replacing Young. He's replacing Guerrero.

It's just somewhat puzzling to pay 96 million for that.

You'll now get to see Beltre become mediocre. It's a downright stupid move.

1) Beltre has had TWO good seasons his entire 13-year career.
2) Those 2 good seasons were both contract years. So you at least have 2016 to look forward to.
3) A 6-year deal is a terrible idea for a player who will be 32 in April.
4) His best asset is his defense and no player gets better defensively after 30.

The only thing the Rangers have going for them is they play in a stadium that makes a mediocre hitter such as Nelson Cruz look like an All-Star.

1) Beltre has had two MVP seasons his entire 13-year career. He's had plenty of "good" seasons.
2) That's just selective data. He's had 5 seasons under expiring contracts and in the other 3 he was terrible. Yet no one ever mentions those when calling him a contract player.
3) Yeah, that's not so great an idea.
4) This is also valid.

I said it before and I won't deny it now that he's a Ranger. Adrian Beltre is a very good player who gets unfairly knocked for some pretty ridiculous stuff. The reason it's a funky contract for the Rangers is because of what they already had. This deal actually made sense for the Angels because he would be replacing Brandon Wood.

The Rangers are essentially spending money just to spend money with this contract. Boras played Nolan Ryan like a fiddle.

wat

1. Beltre has had two great seasons and a bunch of good seasons.
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/adrian-beltre-is-not-motivated-by-contract-years/
3. 6 years seems a lot, 4 years probably better?
4. This a baseless claim, prove to me that every single player in baseball history ever had a massive defensive decline the second they turn 30.

I'd be irked too if I was a clear HOFer but got an unfair rep for not winning enough games or something crazy.
