Satchel Paige appeared in a game at the age of 58. Besides, someone would have to want him for him to pitch. I strongly doubt anyone has interest in a 49-year-old coming off TJ surgery.

Cubs & Nationals Out On Brandon Webb

The Cubs and Nationals are out on Brandon Webb, reports ESPN's Jayson Stark. Stark says Webb is down to two teams now: the Rangers and a mystery NL Central club.

The Reds are not believed to be said mystery team but Stark says Cincinnati has been "quietly poking around for a starter with top-of-the-rotation potential." The Pirates haven't talked to Webb since late-November, and although the Brewers have scouted Webb, their level of interest seems low since the Zack Greinke trade. The Cardinals are known to be seeking starting pitching depth, and then there's the Astros. The now 31-year-old right-hander is expected to decide on a team soon.

More than 27% of over 15,000 MLBTR readers expect Webb to sign with Texas.

With the way free agency has gone this year, he'll sign with the Mystery team.

Probably St. Louis. If they end up signing Webb, maybe he can be like their ace, Chris Carpenter. Remember, Carpenter battled similar arm problems several years ago. He only started 4 games in 2007 and 2008. He's won 17 and 16 games in the last two years. St. Louis probably feels the same can happen to Webb that happened to Carpenter, but Carpenter is probably the exception to the rule that Major League pitchers rarely return to form from major arm/shoulder injuries.

Webb could be a good pickup if he can make starts. Being a groundball pitcher definitely helps if you're gonna play for Texas. However, last I read, he was only being clocked at 82 MPH in the Instructional League. He's a risk/reward player. Sort of like Rich Harden.

After two years, who knows if Webb can even tie his shoes consistently.

I hope he can come back effectively (though I'd rather it not be with Texas obviously) but it's gonna be a longshot if he's really lost 6-7 MPH after such a long layoff. Unless he can become Jamie Moyer obviously.

Webb wasn't exactly known for his conditioning. That Texas heat could be a problem down the stretch. Assuming he can get on a big league mound.

Who makes the HOF this year? I would have to think Bagwell and Alomar are sure things. If Blyleven gets snubbed again ill be pissed.

Blyleven is 5th all time in strikeouts, pitched nearly 5,000 innings with a 3.38 ERA, walked 68 fewer batters than HOF candidate Jack Morris in 1,146 more innings than him.

Put Blyleven in, keep Morris out. The cases are too strong for these two things not to happen. If they both get in that's fine, just as long as Blyleven gets the call.

I don't think Bagwell and Alomar get in this year. Bagwell has the possible steroid use and Alomar was a prick.

Who cares about Alomar being a *****e and suspicions based off no proof for Bagwell. Since when should the voters have the right to make moral judgments in voting? It's stupid, recognize players for their achievements and understand they weren't perfect people.

I've never heard Jeff Bagwell ever implicated in any steroids thing. I've never heard Junior Griffey or the Big Hurt implicated ever. The baseball writers take that under consideration I would think. Think about that all time career Home Runs record for a bit. Had it not been for injuries that made him miss chunks of seasons, Griffey would have broken that record.
