The Rays are stockpiling on young guys and hoping to win the lottery again with these guys...Not bad.

They basically got more for Garza than the Royals did for Greinke. That's pretty astonishing and demonstrates the difference between a really good front office and Dayton Moore.

Not sure why the Cubs made this deal. Massively overvalued Garza in terms of the talent they gave up. Rays win this trade.

Even at his best he's a #2/3 starter. Hardly the kind of guy you give up your top prospects for.

Aw hell :(

$3 million for a guy who's solid for April and May and then goes in the toilet or on the DL soon thereafter

Report: Brad Penny, Tigers Agree to Terms

The Tigers will give Brad Penny a chance to round out their rotation, reportedly agreeing to terms with the veteran starter on a one-year deal.

Penny will make $3 million and have the opportunity to add an additional $3 million through incentives, according to ESPN.com. He made $7.5 million in 2010 while managing only nine appearances for the Cardinals, but the back problems that ended his season in May apparently are gone.

The Tigers' first four starters are set, with Justin Verlander, Rick Porcello, Max Scherzer and Phil Coke. Armando Galarraga would have entered camp as the favorite for the fifth starter's job, but Penny would seem to hold that distinction now.

The 32-year-old right-hander was off to a fantastic start early last season, posing a 1.70 ERA through his first seven starts for St. Louis, before his upper back flared up. He was pounded four seven runs on 13 hits his next time out, then saw one additional start -- his last of the season, May 21 against the Angels -- end after three innings.

Aside from 24 games for the Red Sox in 2009, Penny has spent his entire 11-year career in the National League with the Marlins, Dodgers, Giants and Cardinals. He is a two-time All-Star and finished third in NL Cy Young voting in 2007 after going 16-4 with a 3.03 ERA for the Dodgers.

Probably, I don't think his career peak was better than that of a Billy Wagner but he'll get in at some point. Mind you I'm looking past save totals and just his pitching ability.

The number 601 will be the reason he gets in. It's really the only case that someone can make for him to be considered.

Hamilton still in the hospital. :(

On another note, I'm thinking of getting the MLB yearly package for my computer. Every game for 100 bucks. Worth it or do you guys know of another legitimate deal or sale period?

You also have to factor that when he's eligible, all the big names and/or juicers from the 90s might still be on the ballot so it'll take a while.

It'll take him awhile. Being a West Coast closer (since few on the East Coast stay up till 1am to watch games) with no post-season success will hurt him.

Someone has to go in while all those guys are stuck at 20%.

I get that package every year, I love it. I can watch my Mets on any PC, on my Android mobile, and also on my PS3 connected to my HDTV. :hrt:

I never miss a game. *Which can be a bad and good thing with the Mets. :woot:

I just usually get the MLB Extra Innings on cable and then "MLB.com At Bat" App for the iPhone (mostly for the radio piece in the car)

Not really a fan of watching TV on a computer monitor or smart phone when I've got a 55 inch HD flat screen in the den.

There are so many games though. I don't mind browsing the computer and sorta watching a random Cubs game or something.

It does sound like it will be worth the Benjamin though.

very happy with Soriano joining the Yankees...I guess we had to settle for him after Lee ran for the Phillies

Only the Yankees can afford to piss away $12M on a reliever who pitches the 8th

Scott Boras strikes again. That's just about the most frivolous contract in recent memory. They even gave him the ability to opt out whenever he wants.

Ingenius really.

ESPN confirmed to now show all 19 Sawx/Yanks games:csad:

That answers the Yankees bullpen now if they can only find a Starter.
