I'm thinking the mutant that destroys breakworld will be Emma or Kitty. Emma because she is obviously going the bad guy route right now.
Kitty because it would explain why Ord was experimenting on Collosus.

I also think Beast only thinks he sees Nova. He addresses Emma when the person comes into the room. I believe that Emma is methodically taking down the X-Men. Scott is out of the way. Now she is going after Beast by showing him the person that took him apart and beat him to a pulp.
I dont think Emma is going to go to the bad side, at the end she is going to be with scott and the x-men, she is probably going to be forced by the hellfire club to domething agains the x.men, but at the end i think she is going to reddem herself at least

Same here. I thought he was completely owned by Frost. Seems she's just preying on his fears. Personaly I hope that what she said about Xavier making him the leader is just bull****.
I think you're missing some of the crucial things Emma said to him in the last issue. She said that leader let themselves be known, and Scott is the only leader who actually fears his powers. She then tells him to let go, and to give up the fear of his powers. Once Scott gets that bug out of his ass and has less reservations about himself, he might actually turn into a better leader.

Sorry if I sound like an idiot...but what are you guys talking about? I keep reading about who's going to destroy the breakworld, but I don't remember reading anything that says that something's going to happen...I don't even know what destroying a breakworld means.

I would re-read 13 and 14 but I don't know where they are.

It's from the first arc.

I think Cyclops destroys Breakworld. Concussive blasts will start exploding from every inch of his body, and he'll happen to be standing on a fault line.

That's what I got from #14 as well. It seemed like Whedon was purposely centering this issue around Scott to set up that story later. Whedon's been pretty predictable, so I'd put money on Cyke destroying the Breakworld.

Whedon can explore characters like it's nobody's business, but you can see 90% of his plot twists coming from 2 months away. Literally. Granted, he likes foreshadowing.

Yeah, I believe about a million of us saw the whole "Emma really loves Scott" thing coming months before it happened. Astonishing is still my favorite current X-title at the moment.

Emma really loved Scott back in Morrison's run, didn't she?

That aside, though, yeah, most of Whedon's plot twists are blatantly obvious, though he has had his moments, like the Buffy/Faith battle at the end of season three (who was expecting Buffy to go after Faith like that? Not me.).

I also loved when kitty fell through the floor, and when wolverine gave kitty and collossus that look and said "'bout time". Hilarious! I didn't quite understand the end though. I'll have to go back and look at it again. What do you think Emma did? Cyke looked zombified like a braindead vegetable to me.

Oh, I also liked the danger room scene in issue 13, with wolverine teaching the students. Wolverine's smile and the lights going off and then the 'SNIKT' in the dark was great! Also the little dialogue between wolverine and the asian girl. Apparently it was something like this:

"it's a shame that they admitted a murderous gorilla as a teacher isn't it..."

"don't you think it's shameful to your ancestors that you're always complaining"

haha. awesome!

I was wondering what Hisako & Logan said in that issue. The use of hiragana rather than a bracketed translation does look pretty cool on the page, but a footnote would've been nice.

Well we've seen that
the Hellfire Club planted Emma in the X-Men some time ago, so her relationship was supposed to be a set-up, but apparently she really loves him
(Don't know if that needed tags, but better safe than sorry)

We don't know if her relationship with Scott was part of the plan, though.

I liked the part where kitty phased through the floor too. Same with wolvie giving them both a look. Yeah, I agree with you about Cyke. He did look zombified. I think Emma did something to him. I have thought about going back and looking too.

Do any of you guys bought the tradepaperback with the first 12 issues?, I did and is very cool, at the end it has the mails that whedon wrote to joe quezada and others about what he wanted to do with the tittle. Also very cool to have one issue after another and another, and another, and another, at the end theres also some sketches an variant covers and covers for wizard magazine, very cool, i jus wanted to share with you

I buyed the Hardcover Astonishing X-men (variant cover) this month. Ashtonishing is the best X-Book to buy these days.

One of the first times we "hear" Emma talking to the Hellfire Club is in the second arc, when she's unconscious. The voice says something like:

"Summers? Really? If that geek were sharing my bed, I wouldn't want to wake up either."

IIRC. May not be the exact quote, but I do recall the voice seemed surprised. So if it was a setup-- and I'm still not entirely sure that's what we're seeing here-- then no, I don't think Scott was intended to be part of it.

Emma was supposed to plant herself in the team, and I think her relationship with Scott came from that. It was a part of the plan, but indirectly if you get what I'm saying. On a side note, I think it would be awesome if Cyclops could control his powers now, its something I didn't see coming.

so here we figure out that the head trauma, scott received as a child didn't actually affect his ability to control his powers. it was the psychological trauma that caused him to subconciously force this on himself. he was afraid of losing control so much that he forced himself to lose control so that he could learn to keep it under control (that kinda makes sense). and now it looks like that little switch in his heads been shut off. its looking more and more now like scott will be the destroyer of the breakworld, maybe this will advance his power to planetary destroyer level. if it does i doubt it will be permanent.

by the way, any ideas as to who perfection mite be? i know the popular choice is jean grey or madelyne pryor, but those two would be too predictable.

I can see Scott as an entity of crimson energy, blating Breakworld to bits. But like Spectre said, It wont last long. Maybe he will stay in control but he'll probbly go back to havinghis visor.

See, if all this is true, and then this is why I like Whedon. Character development! He seems to be the only one doing it these days!

Yeah, the character development is great. The interactions between the characers are all so great,it's very well written.

So I was re-readin the first arc of Astonishing(remembering how much I love this book :D) And if you remember Emma says that the reason Kitty is on the team is because she said to put her on. Perhaps Emma has something special planned for Kitty if shes been witht he Hellfire Club the entire time.
