Marvel needs to clean up it's continuity.

There's no possible way for me to agree with you more!

I'm back from work and lovin' these boards.

I know this is the Official ASTONISHING X-Men board, and I'm sure y'all are big fans, it's real nice, but has anyone seen some potentially big problems with this Torn arc?
Why is the Hellfire club attacking the X-men? September solicits from Marvel state Hellfire's close to their goal and they (Marvel) don't even know what it is. Okay, at least Marvel has more or less stopped their nasty habit of giving away the rest of the story in their future solicits (march-- you'll never guess who dies, june-- with x group reeling from the death of x person, you'll never guess who joins the frey next! September-- x has now joined nothing will ever be the same again). Sorry, tangent. Why are they are they attacking the X-men? Why not just stay covert? And go for the goal? Oh, cause then there'd be nothing to write about. Okay. No seriously, why?

Another thing, why is Cassandra Nova working with the Hellfire club? Doesn't she hate all mutants? And why are the X-men still alive? Aside from the fact that all of them could have basically been killed by each of their opponents, Cassandra Nova herself could've taken the X-men down easily. Emma Frost is a really powerful psychic, but only Phoenix, and maybe Prof X could stand up to Cassandra Nova.

I don't get. I like reading it, but I don't get. Oh yeah, last question. The Hellfire club has been chillin' in the X-mansion, upstairs in the room with Emma for how long? Issue 6? I guess Shaw could've gotten in if he wanted to, as Scott went to his strip club in New Xmen, so he could be percieved as legit, but not Negasonic, and certainly not Cassandra. So what's up?

Like I said, I like reading it, but I do't get.

That's actually one of the main reasons why I thought the Hellfire Club existed in Emma's head. The Hellfire Club doesn't seem to have any real motivation, other than screwing around with the X-Men.

But then the Colossus/Shaw fight happened. Now I'm confused... and I'm angry... and I'm armed.

if anyone wants me to post the tony and emma convo from civil war 3, let me know

Nova could mind-control everyone into thinking they're not even there, no?

Yes, but that still doesn't give her a motive for attacking the X-Men.

Not that she had a motive under Morrison's pen, either, but you get my point.

I'm thinking maybe they aren't really there as well. Or maybe it's just one person inside Emma's head. After Beast is confronted by "Nova" I really started to wonder is it some other force than the actual HFC. As far as the Peter/Shaw fight, I'm confused as to why peter didn't remember from his first encounter with Shaw that brute force isn't the way to beat him. Also, why did Shaw start bleeding after Colossus jaw-jacked him?

Wow, Great writing, but there's a character flaw... Emma acted nothing like a b*tc#!!! I actually liked her. And that pic of her with the Genosha flashback is tight, nix the white lipstick. (Obviously you can see i haven't made it to my lcs this week. That's ok tho, i don't mind spoilers, and i'll be there this evening.

I love McNiven's version of Emma. She looks so good.

Regarding AXM's Torn, I think it's just Emma playing around with all of them. All the attacks were basically psychic (Beast and Logan), she could have made Colossus believe he was fighting with Shaw and she could have twisted Kitty's mind so she couldn't stop phasing.

After reading in her miniseries (Emma Frost) what happened to her back when she was a kid, knowing her past and the recent events I can't help but think she's just breaking out. It's like her evil side is trying to emerge and that's the only way it can do it.

I don't know man, but I must admit Marvel is very fortunate that Civil War is going on to take my attention away for the lenthyness of this Torn arc. Patience is still wearing low, you know?

Agreed.

EDIT: but what motive would Emma have to pull that off, gothicFLAVOURS?

Its emma Either Being Munipulated or Just going Crazy

I was convinced (hoping) it was all in her mind until this issue. Now I think it's pretty clearly set up as a straight-up-and-down fight with Hellfire, with Kitty saving the day and Emma turning away from the Dark Side at the last minute.

If there's anybody who could still pull a surprise out of this, it's Whedon. But I think what he seems to be doing has been good enough that he doesn't really need to trick us, if that makes any sense...

Yeah, I don't think Emma will end up with Hellfire at the end either. She seems pretty emotionally invested in what she's doing.

It's really unclear where Civil War fits in with this... like the conversation with Tony Stark? Depending on whether it's before or after Torn, then you have to wonder if she's speaking of her own volition -- what does she have invested in all this? etc.

I think it's her going crazy or just an inner battle between her good and evil side. Maybe she's beating herself up for being this good lately. I think she's hurt by all these last deaths and events (House of M, Decimation and New X-Men) and she thinks she wouldn't suffer this much if she was evil, if she didn't care for anybody and unconsciously she's just finding a way to go back to that evil, the Hellfire Club.

Emma never seemed to me like she was evil at heart... she's just been jaded from a young age.

Doesn't that make a person evil? lol

Not to her core, like you're saying... to me, it would be like she began as a good person, and got jaded, and now she's trying to right herself. (Not saying that this is what I think is happening, because that's so not what's happening.)

No, I don't think she was truly evil, she was just shielded by that appearance, just a way to avoid caring about others and we could see this facade dissapearing when her Hellions died.

I just hope this Torn story ends up digging around human emotions (in this case Emma's) and not just the mere evil of the week we use to read in this comics lately.

That's part of the humour in her so-called second mutation though isn't it? Apart from her love of luxury, there's also the cold, unfeeling aspect.

Personaly, I hope they at least sow the seeds of Emma getting booted from the X-men. Ever since she and Scott hooked up I've seriously lost interest in any main X-men characters.
