i feel like she would retain the title. she IS the white queen.

Courtney Ross is the new White Queen. Emma pretty much gave the title to her. Happened around the time Sunspot became the new Black King.

She isnt in the hellfire club anymore so why would she still go by that name?

She may not be with the HFC anymore, but Emma Frost is associated with the title White Queen more than anyone else. Heck, I remember when Marvel had the Hildebrandt brothers do the artwork for their cards back in the 90s. Emma was with Gen-X at the time, but she was still called "White Queen."

Personally, I think it's fine that she doesn't have a codename. Emma seems like the kind of person who would think such things to be rather ridiculous, anyway.

She still went for the ridiculous codename thing in her Hellfire Club time anyway.

Maybe she should just call herself Diamond.

Yeah but that was her title in the club not her codename. When Bush's term ends he isnt going to be referred to as the President anymore, is he?

Bad example. Bush will continue to be "President" for the rest of his life. All U.S. Presidents continue to carry that title with them after they leave office, just as they continue to have a number of benefits. A better example, perhaps, would be a corporate CEO who steps down. He or she would no longer have their job title.

Regardless, it doesn't change the fact that Emma is closely tied to the White Queen title and Marvel continued to use it with her well after she left the Hellfire Club. She shouldn't use the title now with the X-Men, but keep in mind it wasn't long ago that Whedon was using "White Queen" Emma Frost in his AXM run. She may not have been real, but it's further proof that there's almost no separating Emma and the White Queen identity. It's like salt and pepper, bread and butter, or Hank Pym and the wife-beating persona. :oldrazz:

That still has nothing to do with her codename now.
It actually has a lot to do with it, from Marvel's perspective. [blackout]The character in the Wolverine movie is called Emma Frost--she could have been called White Queen as well, I suppose, but it would have been stupid for the film studio to use that exact same character and call her "Psychic Diamond Woman."[/blackout] For most comic fans (especially non-X-fans), Emma Frost still = White Queen. Marketing plays a big role, and there's no point in adding another name to the character when she's already well-established.

She shouldn't use the title now since she isn't with the HFC. But she shouldn't use a different name. The last thing I'd like to see is another Boom Boom/Boomer/Meltdown fiasco. That she just goes by "Emma" just makes her that much more unique.

Since Emma simply had a title instead of a codename before, I can live with her not using a codename at all. It's not like she had an actual codename that writers are ignoring. THAT bothers the hell out of me. Nobody calls Jean Grey-Summers by her Phoenix name, despite the fact that she was using it as a codename even without the Phoenix Force. Then you've got everyone saying Kitty instead of Shadowcat, and Layla Miller has been called Butterfly like once.

I guess it's partly because Emma is still, at a large part, more defined by the title she used in her HC time.

Emma is still a member of the HFC but doesn't have the title.
i persume she still has a high rank.
and if she wanted the title back, she could easily get it.
i think Sebastien still sees her as the White Queen, even though the place is currently taken.

i never even knew Layla had a codename (thanks for that :yay:) and yea it did bother me that NO ONE called Kitty Shadowcat- ever. Jean however, she went so long as just "Jean" that when she finally said "I'm Phoenix" it never really stuck, even when she was in the actual Phoenix costume.

Emma still has her Hellfire Club membership, sure, but she willingly gave up the title to a suitable replacement. Unless Courtney left the club, Emma is no longer the White Queen.

Also, I doubt Sebastian's opinion counts for too much. Sunspot is the new Lord Imperial of the Hellfire Club.

No matter how many White Queens the Hell Fire Club may have, Emma is sure to be the most famous one of them, the title has become so much a part of her character than just being a title. But mostly she's just Emma towards the X-Men, which is good, kind of like a clean separation from her villain life before and her good guy life now.

No doubt. She's even identified as the White Queen in the recent Uncanny #501 preview. And I agree with the X-Men not using that title for her since it is associated with the HFC. It just shows that she is one of the good guys now.

is there anything a telepath can't do? uploading a foreign language into your teammates brains? wouldn't she need to know the language first in order to do that?? i think writers are allowed too much freedom when it comes to what telpaths can do, but thats just me.

Yeah, they seem to be able to do new things everyday. Maybe she uploaded it into herself first from someone else's brain, but that doesnt make sense because she shouldnt be able to understand it. IDK really.

She'd either have to know the language herself, or she'd have to siphon it off of a local, and I'm pretty sure someone would notice if a psychic was rummaging through their head to put their speech patterns into half a dozen other people.

I guess you wouldn't notice Emma rummaging through your head unless she wanted you to notice it. She's an advanced, highly-skilled telepath, I'm sure she knows a lot of ways to go through your head without causing any headache or something like that.

That's why telepathy is one of those powers that I won't pick for my characters (usually I won't like a character because she/he has certain powers, but I sometimes find myself dislike some characters because of their powers), it's an useful power, maybe even too useful sometimes (so now every team has to have one of them, and it makes thelepathy becomes the most common power in Marvel, or at least, in the X-titles), seems there's hardly a line to served as a limitation of a telepath.

That's why I like telepathy with limitations. The Mastermind family, for example, can only create illusions and/or make people believe them. Karma can only possess you. M's telepathy seems to work better when she's making physical contact.

Well, nobody likes a character that has too much power. After a while they can seem god-like and just get boring. :(

*cough* Morrison's Jean Grey *cough**cough*

i don't know, to me a telepath is a person you can read your thought and also project theirs to you. but then you have scenes where a telepath can shut down a person's mind, being able to shutdown nerve receptors to numb pain, reconstructing a person's memory (Prof X, Jean, Exodus) it does sound like someone bordering omnipotence.
