I totally love Emma Frost. I was never a huge follower of the comics, mainly the Fox TV series from a long way back, but after GM New X-Men, I was sucked in and Emma was part of the reason. I love how Emma is always (when her writing is at it's best) written as pushing Scott... Earlier, the idea of Jean always led Scott when she was around, but the connection they had eventually just became lazy (I'm talking about the writing). Writer's felt they no longer needed to make explicit the deeper motivations of Scott/Jean's relationship. "Reader's 'll know they love each other!" Well, when Grant brought in Emma, not only is she different (better!) than Jean, subsequent writers lost a crutch so now they're forced to think about what the two characters do together, relationship wise. Even better for the readers, there doesn't seem to be so great a consensus on Emma, and Emma/Scott. Some writers who don't like Emma will push her to the back and pull Scott to the forefront, others may follow Grant's idea and have a pushy Emma who is often controversial and in control. The readers win in that sense because at least people are forced to write. What I'm trying to say is that Emma's awesome, she's like what New Coke was supposed to be, and on top of that, she's good for X-men because she forces writers to change things and be dynamic without randomly killing off some b-list character in a seven part crossover with some series you don't read. I'm a New X-Men kid.
