I think that the hair being longer, and strangely thicker, than Emma, and the fact that you can see Scott's back bowing is kinda funny. Definitely not one of the better covers.

Emma looks significantly younger since New X-Men and now...she looks like a teen and she's even shorter than the rest...What's next? we'll see her sucking her thumb?!

so the new Xenogenesis comes out next week....does that mean were not getting an ending to the current Astonishing arc Ellis started like a year ago?

and i just checked out the preview for this new one on ign, and call me crazy but im kinda feelin it ( i know right?). maybe ill check out this first issue.

Astonishing X-Men: Xenogenesis #1
Written by: Warren Ellis
Art by: Kaare Andrews
Price: $3.99
Release Date: May 12, 2010

THE HEROIC AGE IS HERE!
The superstar team of Warren Ellis and Kaare Andrews (SPIDER-MAN: REIGN) take X-Men into the Heroic Age! Something's happening in the tiny East African city of Mbangwi. Something that requires immediate investigation. A newborn sprouts metal electrodes and explodes, taking out an entire hospital. Is this the first wave of mutant rebirth that the X-Men have been praying for…or something very, very different? Something sinister?

For ****'s sake. I love the dialogue, I love Ellis, but I can't handle that art.

What, they couldn't have put Humberto Ramos on the title? Sure, his art wouldn't have fit the script at all, but at least I could enjoy it. All other artists were taken? How did Andrews secure this job?

The art looks better than anything Ramos has done. The only thing that I dont like is the design on Emma, but she does look good, (its just not a good fit for Emma)

My liking Humberto's aesthetics is completely subjective, true, but he has a better mastery over panel-work and page layout than Kaare Andrews could ever dream of.

I am loving the art!!! Storm looks spot on, not liking her mohawk though (I wish there's an explaination why she cut it again). Emma on the other hand is significantly shorter (there's only an inch difference between those two ladies based on their statistics). What's up with that hair? It's way too long! Like her costume though. Scott looks awesome, he looks looser, a little bit laid-back. Hisako looks like Jubilee. The storyline seems interesting, but I kinda know how this issue is ending upon reading the description of the solicitations for June. Spoiler!!!

They are all out of proportion. :( I perfer more realistic art like Silvestri and Finch.

Even with how godawful Finch's art is, agreed.

Not to mention, both of them have better panel-sense than Andrews does.

Bastard, Bastard, Bastard....I concede...the dialogue IS quite sharp.

I still will forever hold Ellis to task for what he did to X-Man, Gen X and X-Force in the late 90s-early 00s

me thinks you got our roles reversed. i pitch, you catch

I love this art (Except Armors face in that one panel). But I love stylized art like Ramos and Skottie Young and stuff. I'm definatly getting this.

Indeed. This first issue has one of the most horrific pieces of art I've ever encountered - Emma's face on page 21. I can't even begin to explain what's wrong with it.

And it's even strategically positioned between a prior bent-over shot of her ass and then a shot of her ****. It's like Andrews drew those because he knows he can't draw her without making her look like Frank Quitely drawing Cassandra Nova.

Well, I had expected to hate this first issue, it was actually quite entertaining. I tried to ignore all the exaggerated bits of Emma that kept hanging out, and focused instead on the dialog which was witty and fun. I just wish the art was better. :(

Did you read the script that comes after the comics pages? There's some wit and fun just in some of the direction text Ellis writes, too. I love Ellis.
