Actually no, I didn't read them. :( I most often skip that stuff because I find it redundant to what I'd just read and I don't have the attention span to spare.

Did Emma always have the fake british accent? I haven't read her origin story and I was confused about that.

Fair enough. There are a few loving gems to be found in it, though. He refers to the title as a "doomed work" at one point. Another example: back when they did the Ghost Boxes two-issue mini and published his scripts in those, there was one where his page direction was like four-freaking-rambling-paragraphs. And he stops and writes: J***s-****ing-C****t, I'm turning into Alan Moore. Just do whatever you want. (Roughly paraphrased by me. The censors were added by Marvel during publication.)

I <3 Warren Ellis.

Havok can probably answer more definitively, since he read a lot more Generation X than I did. But if it wasn't always written into her character, then it's something Grant Morrison started in New X-Men, then Whedon more-or-less carried into Astonishing, and Ellis continued with.

What a great first issue! This is the best X-men Ive read in a long time. The characterization was spot on. I love that Storm has finally been made Scott's equal again as opposed to subordinate to him. Their dialogue was pretty good and I loved Emma's line about sleeping with the leader which allows her to get away with things bc thats so true.. Im surprised this is an Ellis book, bc I generally do not care for his work.

One thing that didnt make sense though was Beast saying that mutant powers only appear at puberty not birth. Is he forgetting that his manifested at birth? Not to mention that powers can appear long before puberty. Artie, Leech, Franklin Richards. Cable's appeared when he was a baby.

I dont recall Emma having a British accent in Gen X but its been so long. FYI, she did have one in the Generation X movie, so somehwere it was assumed that thats how she was meant to be percieved

It's kind of interesting how a woman from Boston actually have an english accent. Her family might have decided to preserve the accent, their ancestors being from England, and keep that part of them, and to not lose their identity. That's how I interpet it at least.

As for Storm, I like for her to take charge on the mission, and I'm guessing Cyclops would let her do just that. Hope he means it. *fingers crossed

That's not it at all. The accent is a matter of image and appearance for her. It gives her the air of old money, high status, haughtiness, elitism. It shows she's better than the people she surrounds herself with.

I just assumed Emma spoke with a very pronounced accent that was easily confused with English, like Kelsey Grammer.

Forgive my ignorance, but is Ellis and Jimenez's arc (continuing with #34) canceled, or is it just taking its sweet time? I thought I read somewhere that Xenogenesis was the relaunch of the AXM series, but I'm probably wrong about that. I'm guessing it's just a side story he's telling to fill in the gaps?

Xenogenesis isnt a relaunch of AXM. That is only a mini series. I beleive the current series is ending. What the last issue is, I have no clue

My understanding is "mini-series" arcs will be the new format for Astonishing, similar to how Ultimate Avengers is running.

I believe #34 and #35 of regular Astonishing are still due out, just under very heavy delays.

the artwork is horrible emma is thrusting her boobs and ass everywhere but has the head of a 12 yo girl.

yea I think the hate for the art is overexagerated. I dont care for Emma's design, but the art isnt really bad

i kinda like these casual uniforms they have but shouldnt Scott have something more secure than his shades? i only skimmed through the first issue so i didnt see if they got into a fight yet, but when they do you know those things are gonna fly off faster than Logan can say "bub".

LOL, yer funny. :p

I enjoyed this issue until Logan's anti African rant seriously there are good and valid points made but he forgot that crippling debt, years of colonial strip mining of natural resources etc have also not helped Africa. What are we skimming over the fact that half of Europe indaved??? Come on history is history it plays its part let's make it know. I'm seriously debating getting issue 2 after that rant!

Astonishing X-Men: Xenogenesis #2

Story by Warren Ellis
Art by Kaare Andrews
Publisher Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date Wed, June 9th, 2010

The birth rate is climbing in the small African village of Karere...and these newborns are anything but normal: infants made of steel, infants only partially visible to the eye, infants who combust and destroy city blocks. Hoping to witness the rebirth of the mutant species, the X-Men go to investigate. But what they find may just be something far more sinister and dangerous...and familiar.

Beast looks huge... Like seriously epic. Emma still looks like a poorly drawn hooker... Usually she just looks like a hooker.

aside from Emma those panels look great! still waiting for the trade but im anxious to read it.
