So Ma and Pa Kane were rich but they decided to join the army? Sounds... awefully unrealistic.

F**k realism! :argh:

Also, Thomas Wayne was a Billionaire trust fund kid who became a f**king doctor. So, it's not exactly without precedent .

Well yeah, he didnt go fight in Iraq though.

But yeah... **** realism! I'm just being pedantic here.

Career military family I would guess. The top brass of the military is full of American aristocrats.

Also, Thomas Wayne was also portrayed basically as a meatball battlefield surgeon in Pre-Crisis comics of the Golden Age. That might be where Miller got the idea of drawing him with a mustache as well, as those stories had WWI looking scenes of Thomas operating in tents with a handlebar mustache.

The Waynes were always wealthy, but they were also always philanthropists. It's part of why Bruce and Kal connect so well-they were both taught as children to find satisfaction in life by helping others. Had the Waynes not been killed, Bruce wouldn't have been the playboy he pretends to be. He would have done great things for people, but their loss drove him to do everything he could so that people wouldn't have to suffer the losses that he suffered as a child.

On the surface, Batman seems to be about vengeance, but he's really quite altruistic at heart, it's just not as clear as it is with Superman.

That's part of why Ma and Pa Kent being dead was part of why they were closer friends Pre-Crisis-because they had both lost people they loved and felt helpless to stop it.

I don't know about #2. I feel like it was explained in the series but I can't recall the details. Honestly, I never really like long-lost relative plots, so I probably tuned out during that part.

The body that Kate's dad found wasn't really Kate's sister but another girl. He didn't tell Kate because he thought that knowing her sister had been abducted by sick kidnappers would be worse than thinking she was dead

So he tried to find Beth on his own but couldn't and something happened to her while she was missing that drove her completely mad :csad:

We will probably get her origin the next time she appears

Yeah, that scene was great.

True 'dat

I loved that scene with so much love. It was a great one for both characters :)

Btw this scene reminds me of B&R #16.

- Hey Bruce, how was time?
*Dick explains the situation to him*

Bruce to Damian:
- I am proud of you. You made the right choices. It is up to you to make sure that Batman gets home safe.

Damian must have been crying behind that mask. :awesome:

D'awwwww that was lovely

I will be interested to see how Damian and Bruce are written together in the comics now that Damian is going to be working with Bruce

Gonna get some comics tomorrow. What are the latest news on the Batverse?

No new news yet other than what we already knew about the new Batman comic books coming out after the relaunch

If your buying some Batman comics you should check out Batgirl this week there is a really fun team up with Steph and Batgirl :)

Well yeah but the father was shown as a marine in a warzone. I doubt aristocrats see war.

I didnt know that.

First of all it was about time they spent some time together. They either had to do that, or tell us that they spend time together off panel. Bruce wouldnt ignore him.

On the other hand, Bruce is his father and i cant imagine Damian daring to make fun of him, engaging in banter or what have you. Bruce wont make fun of him either. And then there's Babs coming back which means that Steph will leave the family, so no more "fatgirl" or "why do you stuff your bra" jokes. :csad:

What does a kid have to do to troll some people around here? :cmad:

Even sons of Generals and Admirals have to go to officer's school, move up the ranks, etc. They might not start at the bottom but they still see serious action. It's why they serve. And I think me labeling them "aristocrats" was a mistake. They do make a fair amount of money, but at least they deserve it.

Simone has said that Steph will show up in Batgirl even after Barbara is back as Batgirl. She will probably just go back to being Spoiler like Dick is going back to being Nightwing

So we should still get lots of fun Steph stories :hrt:

And yep I loved the Squire and Steph team up it was just such a fun and entertaining team up story

I am shipping them now

I an shameless :ninja:

You know, the Kanes could've just been... what's the word... oh yeah, patriotic. Being rich and being willing to put your life on the line for your country aren't mutually exclusive.

Eh... You can do a lot of things for your country but putting your life on the line like that? Hm...

Also, what's going on with Thor in your avatar?

He's headbutting the Silver Surfer.

You can do a lot of things for your country, yes, but joining the military is basically the ultimate expression of patriotism. Clearly, the Colonel is a very patriotic man who believes in the US, to the extent that mere money pales in comparison. It just doesn't strike me as odd that he'd want to serve the US as a Marine, regardless of how rich he is. It's not like the middle class has some kind of copyright on military service.

I'm sure the Silver Surfer deserved it :ninja:

Agreed it doesn't seem all that unrealistic to me.

Lets get down to the real matter at hand here, are the Kanes related to Martha in shape or form?

I think having the colonel being one of Martha's brothers would be pretty cool. (DO IT DIDIO!!!) :hehe:

This. I get pretty tired of hearing fans say that Batman is about revenge and anger; that underscores a critical misunderstanding of the character. Though Batman certainly has a weakness for darker emotions like that, his imperative has always been to protect life, and he'll always choose protecting life over hurting crime.

But if the opportunity presents itself, he will break a guys thumbs or do unspeakable things to him with a clicky top pen. :o

Only once in a while so that he can play off of that perception of himself without actually getting his hands dirty later on.

Yeah, but when he does it, he always has an erection.
